Theft prevention?

yea i guess it wouldnt work to well for a buggy/truggy. we never left him in there over night, nobody in my area broke into my vehicles cause they arent that stupid. i know everybody and what they drive. i know all the little hoodlums and they all know me. had altercations with almost all off them so i know they wont be trying to gaff my [censored].

Back in the days of me being into quads instead of trucks...

There was a guy that had a bracket bolted to his 14FF using allen bolts in place of the stock bolts. He ran a chain between those brackets and around the carrier bearing for his driveshaft. For the front he just always parked it at full lock.

theft protection...
dual SM465s, triple sticked doubler, theyll have a hard time finding a gear high and in the right direction and theyll give up. lol

Thats actually come to mind a few times. After watching the suburban on here break the input shaft off the second tranny I decided against it. Other than the weight and short rear driveshaft that did sound like a good idea. Twin sticking the 205 also sounds good and will most likely be one of my next mod's. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Well, no doubler, but I could twin stick my 205. That would just give me another excuse to find a locker for my D60. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Go to the hardware store. They sell little peel and stick rubber cushions for cabinet doors-buy some. Pull dist cap, put one of those little jewels on the center contact-make sure you buy the black cushions so noone will notice them at night, and they pull the cap. You might have to bend the brass contact on the rotor back up a little bit when you get ready to drive it again, cause that cushion will push it down more than normal.

Cable should work well for the weels since I dont have enough room for a chain between my rims and brakes.

And by negative power source I did mean ground... poor choice of words I guess but I think of ground and negative as the same thing when it comes to my rig /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Do you think it's a good idea to have a grant steering wheel disconnect or one of those column colars they sell? I was thinking one of those might be a good way to keep my semi-rare steering column from being smashed when some guy tries to jimmy my ignition. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I am in a good neighborhood btw but more and more people have been hearing about my truck and I'm getting nervous that the word might spread to the wrong kind of people. I don't mind that people think my truck is cool, but I don't need people I don't know, knowing what I have invested in it. Maybe I'm paranoid. /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

If'n I knew you weren't in the armpit of america, I'd say a big ole' nasty dog, a double barrel shot gun, and sincere and never-ending hate for everyone (know you got that last one!).
Make sure to tell everyone you have em too, that [censored] goes round faster than truck talk.

you could aways try getting those lugnuts that require a special wrench to get them out. I have a friend who got some for his american racing rims and MTRs that looked like a deep well socket with the rachet end on the stud and the 12 slotted end showing.

[/ QUOTE ]

I carry a tool in my road-side kit that would have anyone's locking nuts of just as fast as regular lug nuts, maybe even faster. No vice grips, and even my g/fs which is all locking nuts I could get it off likety split, and I bought the tool at autozone.
Thing is: if someone wants yer [censored], they'll take it. Only true deterent is if they know they will die trying to take yer [censored], and since they are theifes they deserve to die.
There are no "good places" in mass, but stay down there your a masshole for life in my oppion, wouldn't want you to further ruin my NH /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

By chaining or using cable thru the rims to the axle will kill 2 birds with one stone--you'll make it take much longer to steal the tires and rims, and they cant drive the truck with the rims chained to the axles(not very far at least! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif).As for anti-theft ,why not just take the battery out if its going to be sitting anyway--you dont want it to get dead cells from sulphating sitting unused,or freeze and crack this winter(and the theives might steal it too,if its a decent battery like a die hard or optima). No battery==no power,no start,no nuthin!.They'ed have to tow it away with a ramp truck, and even that would not be easy with the wheels chained.Surveilance cameras bring peace of mind with no blaring sirens or alarms--many of my friends without garages have them installed so they can "watch" the car and report any suspicious activity--the best part is the theives dont have a clue they have been observed intil the cops arrive(or you bash their skulls in! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)and you can videotape the break in if you hook your VCR to the camera--instant evidence for prosecution!.
If you can put some floodlights on your house that use the motion sensor, that will alert you of intruders when it comes on--also it will likely scare them off, until they figure out its automatic.I have them in my yard, but all the stray cats, dogs, skunks, racoons, and occasional deer set it off quite often..hey,there is an idea--keep a pet skunk in the truck(de-scented of course!)--I dont know many theives who'd want to mess with a skunk!. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

i have these special lug nuts (one per rim) that have a funky deisgn that can only be taken off with the special tool that comes with it. They suck because if you get some vice grips, you'd beable to get them off in 10 minutes or so. Also, when you lose the tool your in trouble. And sometimes the tool doesn't want to fit inside (I had that trouble /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif)

I hate wheel locks. We have the tool at work to take em off with out the "special" socket, intended for the lug nut.

Do you seriously think someones going to have the balls to jack some big ass tires off a truck? Come on. Just put an alarm on it, even if you think it wont stop them because they know how to get around them, it will deter them.

I hate Mass. and I've actually been thinking of moving to NH. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif Can't wait to meet you when I get up there. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The only "good places" in Mass is near the NY/NH/VT border area, the last part of the state that hasnt been overun with ailiens(from other countries, not outer space!).They are dissapearing fast though,as is good land in NH and ME.I'd love to move too,but I would rather go south where its warm most of the year--I'm sick of snow and all the work it takes to move it,heating bills, colds, and frosted windsheilds.I must have crossed the border to old fartdom when my 45th birthday came and went--cant see as good, fix my truck as long or feel like doing projects like I used too--I think living here depresses a lot of people(me included /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)You dont have much good weather or time to play around here, you have to spend most of your waking moments working just to pay the bills here--one of the most expensive places to live BTW---.
I can understand your anxiety about losing your hard earned investments in your truck--my neighborhood hasnt had many problems, but I know it could happen any time now--more crack and heroin heads are coming here every day,and the next town over from me has LOTS of thefts and vandalism problems--with all the new houses being built, more punks are moving in and taking over the "hood",so we are keeping a close eye on our stuff too.A friend of mine had a Quad 4-wheeler stolen right out of an aluminum truck storage body while he was home!--it was during a heavy thunderstorm,he was in the house eating, and he heard nothing--they cut the lock off with bolt cutters, openned the door and evidently rolled it far enough away to start it,or most likely stuffed it in a truck or van and it was gone--he only made 3 payments on it,and had no insurance /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif--he's real paranoid about leaving anything in his yard now--even when its locked away,it seems its not safe--he had 3 other 4 wheelers in the same truck body, but they only took the new one,the others were 5-10 years old.Guess they only like the good stuff.I hope whoever stole them ends up on the wrong end of a 12 gauge--or a crossbow, even better--no noise!. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That happened to me on my 15'th birthday. I had a 1990 Honda TRX 300 I used to keep in my shed. My parents got me some new tires for it a few days before my b-day as an early present and I only got to ride on them once before some fawktard stole it! They took it durring the day while I was with my Mom bringing my sister to a dance class... we were only gone for a half hour. I think one of my neighbors stole it because nobody else would or could have known nobody was home. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif Now I'm afraid to leave anything locked or unlocked in my yard. By the way, that was six years ago, I'm 21 now and it still bothers me. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

We had a 1994 Honda Fourtraxx 90 stolen from us back in 1997 I think it was. We had it chained up with two chains on a state highway for sale. It had a whopping 10 hours on it (we bought it just so I could take a ORV safety class so I could ride my Yamaha Blaster).

It was broad daylight when the guy took it. He drove up to the end of our driveway and parked his minivan. He went out there and cut both chains. He then loaded it in his minivan. This is on a state highway at 4pm that sees 35,000 cars go by each day.

Through some people that saw the guy steal it (they thought he bought it at the time, but when we put a sign up that said REWARD people knew it was stolen), we managed to find out who stole it. The cops searched his yard and didn't find it. He's stolen ATVs before. It's still on Michigan's stolen list today.

About a year after the guy stole it my Dad caught up with him at a restaurant after my Dad found out he was a regular there. My Dad scared the guy so bad he pissed his pants.

I've often contemplated going and "getting even" with that guy. Probably will once I'm entirely independent of my parents and nothing can go back on them in case I get caught.

Anyway, the only way you're going to keep someone from stealing your [censored] is to make it either not worth stealing or make it harder to steal than your neighbor's stuff.

just park on a hill, if you have a e-brake all they will be able to take off are the front 2 wheels, if they try to jack up the rear the whole truck will roll over them /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

make your tcase and tranny shifters removable. Leave the t-case in N and the tranny in P. Make sure the threaded portion of each shifter is slightly below the body of the rig so no one can grab the nub and shift it that way. Add in the chain/locks on the rims, locking lug nuts, brake-pedal lock, an alarm, kill switch and a big fawkin dog and you're set. The neighbors ghey azz Escalade on 24" rims starts to look a whole lot better to Mr Scumbad Car Theif.
