I flew into the Green Zone the other day and saw an uparmored ambulance HMMWV(M997?, FLA). It has a two piece wheel like the rest of em, but it had at least 24(!) bolts holding the outer piece on. Looks like the 12 bolters might start to become more available if these are replaceing them.

Sorry, no pics. I will take my camera on all missions for now on in case I see this vehicle or even notice these rims on any others.

you mean these? I posted them a while back, but nobody seems to have the tech info on them.

What kinda tech info do you need? The ones we have, have unpainted studs, looks nice.

Also, my unit gets tons of funding, and freakin "Light Force" lights have started to show up on a couple of our HMMWV's.

That would be them. The 12 bolters had a 3850 load rating on them, so I am guessing these are a bit higher.

Damn I would hate to have to take those apart the 12 bolts are a pain in the ass as it is. They look pretty sweet though

Are the newer rims still 16.5"?

those are the 24 bolt beadlocks, pretty much all of them are going to that style, they leak less air, and they are stronger, you can get 3 different tires for them too, the Goodyear Wrangler "double V" (what you will see about 85% of HMMWV's using), the BF Goodrich BAJA T/A, or the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R (alot of convoy escort trucks use those two)......all of them are 37x12.50x16.5 configuration........ive seen VERY FEW of the old 36x12.50x16.5 Wrangler MT's........mostly reserve or national guard trucks that are slick skins and dont leave base......

ive worked DS Maintenance for a year now down here in the T&G Sites.....Tallil, Cedar II, and Delta......

The 36x12.5-16.5 bias plies with the "Swamperish" tread are going away. They've been officially replaced by the 37" radials. This is why for the past year or two we've seen a LOT of the 36" bias plies turning up on the surplus markets, even new.

The SF guys have used SXs for a while. but then they have no budget and get what they want weather or not is is in the Army inventory
