Thermal barrier?

I’m thinking about building a heat shield of sorts under the rear cargo area on my blazer. Since we have the camper on there, it’s difficult to do much interior insulation so I thought something underneath might help.

Has anyone done this? I have a large sheet of aluminum I can use. Cut it to fit between the frame rails and bolt to the underside supports of the cargo area. Hopefully reflect a bunch of road heat?

Look up lizardskin. They have both a spray on thermal barrier and sound control. Both can be sprayed on the interior (or exterior if you can prep it properly).

I had real hot floor temps with just Siless foil backed sound deadener and carpet. (No pad) I did exhaust wrap and it helped a ton. Still hot though, 454 in mine. I am thinking of trying a heat shield at the muffler too.

I’m familiar with the lizard skin. The prep would be tough on the underside. I think I’m just going to try the heat shield idea since it’s not permanent if it doesn’t work out.

Are you talking about the heat from driving or just while camping? I think most of the heat comes from the exhaust and the transmission. The tranny might not be an issue for the camper, but adding a heat shield between the exhaust and the floor could help a lot, or exhaust wrap.

Is it really so hard to insulate the interior?

Mostly while driving. I figured road heat, trans and exhaust all heat up that area.
