I repainted some old '73 Ohio plates for the Blazer. They were my Dad's. He had them on the our '73 Monte Carlo back in...well...1973. They've hung in my garages, basements, and even my bedroom at one point over the years.

Now that I have a '73 vehicle I can get a historic vehicle license and run them legally on my truck.:cool1: In Ohio you pay $25 and the registration is good for 50 years! You just have to have a regularly licensed other vehicle as a daily driver to qualify (which would be my Honda). I'll post pictures of the truck with the plates installed once I get "legalized".

That looks sharp Craig, should spruce up your piece nicely.:D Really cool that you have had them that long to. What did your dad say?

He thought it was pretty slick that it was possible. But my Dad is no car guy so he had no idea. My Dad buys brand new cars every three years because he doesn't work on them and doesn't want to deal with stuff that goes wrong when a car gets that old (three years...I know, a car is practically a heap by then  ).

:haha:

Did you do anything to those? They look amazing for being as old as I am.
Nothing particularly other than some fresh paint. Since they are stamped with "73 OHIO" they were only used on our car for 2 years max. Then they were retired to garage wall duty. :D

Have you checked with DMV already to make sure those plate numbers aren't in use somewhere now? Not sure how other states are but here in California after so many years of a plate not being registered to a vehicle the state will reuse the numbers for motorcycle or trailer plates.

I hope not. Guess I'll find out tomorrow. :o

not only that but i believe it is illegal to re-paint plates...

im thinking QQ tags for my truck..right now my truck has not left my driveway this year other than to go around the block once and to go to inspection twice... failed the first time... :doah:

I pay $525 for my truck insurance and $509 for my camaro which is my dd.. so my dd costs less.. there is a problem with that...

however QQ tags also means can only be driven so many miles a year and to and from events and other certain restrictions... gotta look into it...

I've already checked into that. There are several guys at my work (Summit) who have old school plates on their cars. You can repaint the plates in Ohio but they have to be painted the original color for that year. But one guy said they don't really even have a locktight way of enforcing that. He said he has seen old plates at car shows that are color-keyed to the body color.

I repainted mine the same dark green that they were originally.

There's also no mileage or driving stipulation in Ohio from what I've heard, if there is one it's loosely enforced if not at all. You just have to have another vehicle you own that's registered normally (as your DD). These guys drive their cars everywhere when it's nice. Even if there was a mileage limit, I'd probably be within it anyway.

The only thing I'm not sure about is if that plate number is taken. I'm going there sometime today or tomorrow to find out.

Got the plates on! I'm legal.

Went to the BMV and paid $21.74 and now I can legally run my Dad's old license plates! The girl that handled my transaction said not a word about mileage limits or driving restrictions. Not to say there aren't any, but must not be a top priority as I've heard from many others.

The plates are really cool. I already loved the vintage look to your truck and now the authentic plates complete it, awesome!:bow::bow:

Sweet man...you dont have an excuse to get a seatbelt ticket now though, lol

Makes me wish I had some 83 Vintage Iowa plates laying around, although I dont know if Iowa has the same law or not. Im doubting it.

I liked our old Blue and white plates alot better then the current ones

The way it works here is the same, I have 63 plates on my bug and they can be repainted if you want the only they care about is the #. NJ to my knowledge never had year numbered plates just new styles they never even had a 1976 plate which lots of other states did. Most states went to a generic plate in the 70's as far as I can tell.
