So after my recent trip to South Dakota, I really want a smaller rig, not wheelbase or tire size smaller just narrower.

Any one ever narrowed a cab before. I want to retain that classic chevy look but I also want to go one step closer to a buggy. In addition to narrowing the cab I will probably cut alot of it off and weld the bedsides back on to the truck. I would like to make seating for four.

The more and more I think about this idea the more I like it. If I was 10 or 12 inches narrower it would make it lots easier.

The only reason I want to do this is because I don't really like buggys, I respect them but don't really like the way they look. If I built a buggy it would end up being small. I want to be able to seat 4 and have room for junk.

Hope to get coil springs front and rear by the end of this year too. That will help a ton, gonna shave the axles within an a millimeter of their lives.

Full hydro after I get the coils in the front. Maybe I should just build a buggy:haha:

Thanks for bringing that to my attention

Mine isn't full width in the middle, the tube work is actually based off of an S&W cage kit I was given. So basically it's as wide as the internal cage would be, at least a foot narrower probably more like 18" but I don't know for sure.

do you like your current width Chris?

I am thinking about 10" or so. I won't start on it till later this year, too much wheeling to do this year. I am going to have to pay real close attention to stuff to see just how much I need to go. I actually probably will just end up with a front clip on it, the reason being is that if I would have had bedsides they would have been completely crushed in. We will see though who knows.

Anyone have any more info on the red one?

I never really got the whole narrowing thing, i'm not bashing it, or those that have, it sure looks like it takes alot of work, and i applaud that, but trying to narrow a fullsize, for clearance reasons? or what? why not just use a S-10 or import truck or something then, and install fullsize axles?

The trucks look weird to me being narrowed in any fasion and i really don't see much benefit to them, as you still have the same track width.

Again, not trying to start anything bad, just an observation and opinion on the matter. :D It's just not something for me is all :crazy:

Depends on what you mean.

As far as space inside it's fine, about as much space as a stock Blazer with a cage in it. Most of what I cut out to narrow it is that thick stock B-pillar (6" probably) and then the air that would be between the door and tube. So for interior space I like it.

Overall width it's good but it could always be more narrow. Of course I hit the rocker tubes and door panels all the time. The thing is I built it in stages and that's just how those things go, no rig is ever going to be the "best" so as long as it's fun to drive and capable enough for you that's all that matters. In that aspect, I have no complaints.

It's a world of difference being as narrow as it is now compared to when it was full bodied, that's very worth it IMO.

I've wheeled with that guy a few times, Dave is his name maybe? He just cut the cab apart and welded it back together, said him and his buddies did it in a weekend :eek1:

It's an auto obviously, tough to fit a stick in between those two seats probably :rolleyes:

I don't see how you are going to make the truck appreciably narrower and still have storage and seating for 4 people.....

Let your full-size be a full size truck. If you want something small, go build a buggy.... it's probably less work in the long run.

Most of the area I got rid of was not usable storage or seating space, it could easily be a 4 seater with some different tube work.

To each their own, I wheeled and DD my K5 for many years before it eventually progressed into a buggy type thing. If I'd started with a buggy I either would've never got it out of the garage because there is so much time involved or I wouldn't know how to drive it because I had no wheel time with a lesser rig.

Again, it's not for everyone but I have no regrets :D

For comparison Eric, here's a little before and after, the old MT/Rs are actually on a narrower wheel with .75" less backspacing so they stick out further than my current IROK's

Its basically cause I really like my setup and I like the look of the full size truck. Plus I have a spare cab, I don't have a s-10 cab. Track width is fine. My body hangs me up alot. I get into some tight spots.

I hope to build another blazer to be my full size truck. Collecting parts now for that build gonna be a mild camping wheeling rig.

My truck does not seat 4 now, it is a truck cab not a blazer. I want seating for 4 so mods are going to happen anyway. Its a heck of alot of labor but not really that much cost into narrowing the cab.

It doesn't need to be alot narrower just a bit (I of course say this now I am sure I will want it narrower later)

I have gone back and forth on getting a wrangler tub, doing a 4 runner all tubed out with my drivetrain, I like this idea best. For me to go to the next level of wheeling the truck needs to be narrower end of story. I have never been a big fan of buggys, even though my truck is going that direction. I still want a semi all weather truck something that I can enclose somewhat. I realize it will be hard to do what I would like and get a weather tight seal on the thing.

I have never done things the easy way thats for sure :D

:1zhelp::eek::shocked::eek1: (shaking in boots)

What have I gotten myself into....should I bring my brain bucket?

:haha::haha:

It has been suggested before, but I am pretty worried about my head so I protect it, the rest of me, well now thats a different story, brain bucket might not help too much :D:D:D

I support your decision to narrow the body, I have always liked how they look. A certain ck5 vendor happens to already have a narrowed cab :whistle: I have no tips or tricks to doing it, but someday I want to do it to a suburban and have a narrowed 4-seater fullsize :D
