That's awesomer!!! :dunno:

Good thing he was wearing a helmet, I think he hit the wheel pretty hard.

Bye bye front axle.

I know it is dicustiong but the point is to show how strong thing use to be I would like to see a modern suv that is stock like that blazer was and I bet the new suv would a lot more damage then the blazer just my $0.02.:k5:

I'd bet my bottom dollar if that was a new tahoe or truck, it would have driven away, damaged yes, but driven off the course. Or at least in better shape after a jump like that.

That poor Blazer has some serious frame damage from a hit like that. Just look at the front fenders and hood come up. I'd bet the core support and frame horns hit the ground.

Flew real nice, that was a suprise. But I'll bet today's trucks with their thicker boxed frame would probably fair better, especially the straight axle trucks. I wouldn't trust an IFS rig.

point taken but what crumble zones yes a newer suv or truck would be safer but I think only the HD truck of to day could stand up to that kind of abuse

Some jackass tried to jump a ford raptor that was fairly new to him. It didnt fair much better. at least his airbag worked to keep his noggin of the steering wheel.

Poor Blazer I hope they didn't junk it afterwards.

I agree but the point I am trying make by sharing this is that unles you buy a HD truck the structural integity just is not there in todays suvs and light duty trucks like it use to be any more but that just my $0.02 yes that blazer trash bad but I think to days stuff would brake a hole lot faster unless it HD.

Have you actually compared frames on a newer truck vs our square bodies?

No contest, new trucks are far better constructed.

If you're still not convinced, just compare towing ratings from a new 1/2 ton to a K20 or even K30.

Don't get me wrong, I love my square bodies but newer trucks are far more capable and reliable.

O definitely. GMs new advertising campaign for the HD is going to be "HDs, for when you need a truck you can lawn dart and everything will be fine"

Yeah.... OK then.

Anything will break or bend if you push it hard enough!...

I wouldn't want to crash some of the 88 and newer trucks I've seen here, the frames are rotted so badly up front they would crumple like newspaper..when they were new I agree the design was beefier that the square bodies were..

For the age of that K5 and considering the frame probably had some rust and thousands of miles on it,I think it held up pretty well,considering...imagine the force it takes to break a knuckle on even a 10 bolt front end, then think about the frame being only 3/16" thick brand new...from the view the video provides, its tough to say if the frame did suffer any damage,it could be the tire just crumpled the fender up when the knuckle busted off for all we know..

I'd say the majority of the damage was the front diff breaking at the center section. Both halves from the spring area out rotated up way beyond normal hitting the inner fenders and wiping out the fenders and stuff. It's likely the frame bent too...I wouldn't doubt the guy felt it was a one lap truck and crushed it later.

To the OP, we all love our old square bodied rigs here. We are also painfully aware of the inherent weak points and "so-so" design. We still love them, but we know enough that if we want to air one out like that guy we'll be putting a ton of work into them beforehand.

Oh yeah, lol at the Raptor hero.
