I got my 4" suspension lift and 1" body lift kits from ORD so I decided to tackle it myself this weekend. Today was SUPPOSED to be for removing the 3" body lift that was on the truck and installing the 1" ORD body lift. I've never attempted anything like this before but I won't even consider paying someone to do it. Ok .... lessons learned....

1: always DOUBLE your time estimate and start early. Because I wanted to go out last night, I didn't roll into bed untill 3:00 am so I had a late start. Didn't start working on the truck untill 1 pm. Its dark now (5:30) so I stopped... gotta finish it tommorow.

2: Make sure to chock your wheels.... especially if your parking brake cable ain't hooked up! Found out the hard way that one of the things that needs to be adjusted is the colum shifter. I'm parked on a slight incline. As I lowered one side of the body after removing the bolts, my truck started to roll! Lowering the body caused the the colum shifter to shift to neutral. :eek1:

3. Rusty bolts CAN stick to plastic. One of the old body lifts pucks was stuck to the old bolt. No amount of prying would unstick it. Had to cut off the bolt.... Took me about a half an hour of trying to cut it off with a sawzall to realize it the sawzall was'nt gonna hack it (pun intended). And THEN (finally) I remembered that I Do have an angle grinder... maybe that would work (duh!). Then it took about 30 secs to cut the bolt! (and burn through my carpet since i didn't pull it back far enough :doah:

4: Sometimes the fasteners supplied don't work. For one set of bodymounts, none of the supplied bolts would fit. The old bolts were too long and the supplied bolts were too short.... solution?..... because I'm a moron, I decided to take two of the old long bolts, cut it down and tap it to fit. Sure it worked but the hour I spent doing that could have been alleviated with a trip to the hardware store.... the couple of bucks I saved don't seem too wonderful as night closes in and I'm still under my rig!

5: I must be an idiot, because even with these problems, I totally dig this ****! :D

Finished the body lift! FINALLY! ONE stupid bolt wouldn't line up with the stupid captured nut..... Had to prybar it in... took a while. The rod that connects the column shift lever to the transmission was welded longer for the 3" body lift. Had to grind down the weld point so the linkage would slip by it to its proper position.

I noticed the front-most bodylift were NOT 3" but cut down to about an inch and a half?!? I tried replacing it with the ord 1" bodylift there but now the doors won't close properly. The fender to door clearance suggested that the front bodylift is still too high. I removed the ord 1" bodylift from the front and the doors lined up better but could be lowered more.... I don't get it..... anybody else have this problem?!? I'll run it like this for a while and see how it works out.

But YES!! I'm done! Next... wont have time to install the 4" springs today so that'll wait till next weekend. I'll prolly install my air horns since I have limited daylight today.
