Well, I've been gone from here longer than I can remember. I first signed up on Jan 6th 2002. I've owned two K5 Blazers a '79 & '85 and a 1991 Suburban. Looking for another Suburban now and I'm contemplating going to the dark side and looking at a '92 to '99 IFS 4x4 model. I know all the things to check for on the 73-91 years but what were weak areas and things to look out for on the IFS models any years better than others, is a 3/4 ton a million times better than a 1/2 ton :-).

I'm unable to post in the 'burb section and not ready to pay for a membership unless I do end up getting an older model. Thanks in advance for any help, this place is a treasure trove of knowledgable people.

Newer would obviously be better. I'd look for a 3/4 ton with a vortec 454 myself. Personally I hate the vortec 350 fuel injection, not to mention, a 454 would be better in such a huge truck in every way. More torque, proven engine design, and comparable mileage from what I've heard.

Front suspension components are the biggest issue on those years. The rest of the truck is a pretty great setup IMO.
