Each door jam on The Blazerh as one of these. Kinda rusty and seemingly frozen. Slowly battering a circular impact mark into the door where it hits.

WTF is it and can I remove it?

Oh no ****? No wonder they don't work. These are seized up solid.

Where do you get them and how do they work? Wiring harness on the back or something?

Just a simple single wire grounding circuit. I have a bunch of door pin switches from when I did car audio and alarms. (MECP) Next time your down I'll give you a couple. If you haven't fixed it already. Might try a local car audio place as I'm sure they'll have a couple they can part with.

Your local parts store should carry them, if not hit up your local junk yard and pull a few.

Yeah they just have a spade terminal on the back. The ones on my burb look exactly like that. You'd never guess from looking at them that they were once actually a moving part...mine are so bad they have become one piece. :doah:

One thing to remember, you can ALWAYS remove it if you are determined enough.:D

The correct question is, will the truck still run if I do........

Yeah, I should have said, "will a big light go off and a warning klaxon sound if I remove them?"

Thanks guys. Kjunky, I'll let you know, thanks.

I believe it should be a two wire setup on the back of that switch in 89. One wire is the dome light, the other is the key warning buzzer. At least on the driver's side, the passenger side is a single wire setup.

one thing i remember about doing mine is that when you put the new ones in twist it counterclockwise a few times with the wire attatched (before you screw it in) so when you do screw it in the wire wont be twisted and fall off cause its hard to fish out of there if it does.

Good tip. I was wondering about that myself. I unthreaded one once to see how it connected but I'll keep that in mind when I replace them.

Good thought, thanks.

Minor update on this - I hit them with PBlaster repeatedly and still wouldn't budge. Broke out the hammer and whacked them until they were retracted enough they don't touch the door. Good for now.
I might not fix them, just take them off.
