I was getting gas in my Mom's car earlier tonight (we're "car-sitting" - long story...) and I stopped into a Sunoco. Walk in to hand over the cash, and I see a big label on the counter:

RACE GAS
Sunoco Blue 116
$7.50/gal

Good thing most cars that require 116 octane are so fuel efficient...

Does your Mom's car require the 116? Or you just saw the sign while paying for regular gas?

Yup thats about right. :doah:
i mix in 114 for my 11:1 compression big block in my camaro to keep it from pinging.. ain't cheap about 40 bucks for a 5 gallon jug.

I'm paying $6 a gallon for 108 for my Camaro.

Funny thing is you'll never hear guys at the track bitch about race fuel prices, but don't get them going on fuel for the tow rig.

Anywhere from 2 to 5, depending on how many rounds I go.

On the street I naturally use more, so I'm selective on when and where I'll take the car.

hmm,let's see here

$7.50? That's about what you'd lay out for a gallon of plain old regular in the Netherlands (most of it being taxes to support nanny state handouts for the asylum seeker crowd).

Just to make everyone cry:
Back in 79, I worked in the fuel farm at an air force base. One of my jobs was draining the water out of the storage tanks.
One of these tanks was full of 130 octane hi perf fuel for piston fighters!! It was purple in color. Anyhow, I would drain the water, PLUS 4-5 gallons to make sure all the water was gone. Of course, I could not let this fuel just spill on the ground, so I brought my own personal gas can.
My old 65 Merc with the high comp 390 sure did like that purple stuff mixed with the low octane regular!!!!!

Just saw the sign. The car is a Crossfire; it takes premium, but not 116.
If I owned a vehicle that needed 116 octane, I probably wouldn't b*tch much about the price. I wouldn't be working through the whole holiday at Lowe's, either...

...Nitromethane. That stuff cost about $55 a gallon.
Last I heard, nitro was closer to $70/gal... but hey, who's counting?:D

100 octane by my house is 5.60/gal, but i remember when it was 3.60 a gallon and we cried it was so expensive now regular is close to that. :D

Yeah I used to get Cam2 or something like that at a Mobil for my dirtbike when I raced. It smelled soo good from the exhuast. It was even leaded.
