Think this would cause my vibration?Pic inside

I am going with an Eaton as it is rebuildable and I can get it from summit for $350.I don't really plan to keep it but I will put some money into it and try to sell it in better condition(tranny fixed, rear end fixed)

Well,It's in the shop getting a new tranny,t-case resealed and the new posi installed.I don't have the time to do it all myself plus I don't have to listen to the wife yelling about me being in the garage too long,if there is such a thing. It will be nice to have reverse :D

Well it was cracked all the way around. He said he had no idea what was holding it together. When he should it to me after he pulled it,it was pulling apart about an inch.He could move the ring gear side to side whilt it was still connected. My axle shafts wore grooves in them and that is where all my vibes were coming from.It works great now.I upgraded a little to 30 splines.

Give us a status report back when you do some wheeling.

I know what posi is like in the snow in a car on-road, should be similar in the truck, but I'm real curious to see what you think about it after having the gov-lock and doing a bit of mild off-road. I will probably be in the same boat, if my gov-lock decides to give up on me, but posi is just a hard sell knowing that the possibility of having only one drive wheel in the back is reality in a tough situation.

Not too sure how it did offroad before cause I just bought it a couple of months ago and it had no reverse and had bad vibes so I was reluctant to take it :D It should do great in the snow and offroad now.I may take it out this weekend and see.I am kinda curious to see how the posi does in the snow, should do well.

yeah, no problem in snow, but the additional vehicle weight should easily overcome the posi setup in situations where one wheel in the rear is planted well and the other isn't.

The question is, at what point does that slippage occur? Too soon and traction will be horrible all the time off-road. If it's pretty "tight" then it might not be so apparent. This is why Eaton has at least two different spring sets for most of the posi diffs they sell now: standard, and heavy at 800. (in-lbs? it should be on their site)

Ouch

:eek1:

I am having the same vibration problems (84K5/350/700r4/208--stock rears). Has been going for about a month now. I have checked, and rechecked the balance of the tires, joints, angles, everything.....now I am scared to open the diff. As I do NOT have the cash for a new unit or even a junkyard jewel at the moment, does anyone know if the front and rears are interchangeable?? I would be happy to deal without 4X until I have the cash!

Thanks!
