Thinking about making a FAQ compendium.

All you know we tend to see some repetitive question (I've been guilty of it too). I've been thinking using some of my spare time this week to make a list of the 'useful' threads and either, make links to them all, or compile information in a sort of all-encompassing general FAQ.

Goals wolud be to have answers for questions like... What size tires can I use on 10 bolts? What's the cheapest way to lift 4 inches? Good, cheap, and flexy suspension setups. Maintenance (carbs, oil, transmission, diffs, etc). Gearing suggestions, etc.

Please add any input you might like to see in something like this. Heck... I think I might be able to even create a wiki so that everyone can expand on it. I just need the appropriate motivation.

A picture ID guide for "What transmission/t-case/axles/etc... do I have?" would be cool.

I need to steal CK5's SQL database... then I could code up some stuff to parse everything for me

YES!!! I even need one myself sometimes. Find some photos of what posi's, lockers, and gov-locks look like.

How about a bit of different inputs on all the transfer cases, and outputs on transmissions?

ORD has a pretty good page on 205 inputs, might wanna shoot him a PM as they also have pictures.

I'll keep that in mind. Instead of creating this Ad-Hoc, I'm developing a list of what information would be most beneficial, what photos and diagrams need to be obtained, etc. Then I'll work on getting everything together, and then in a presentable way.

ttt... come on guys, I know you've got some other 'common' info you'd like to see in something like this.

I bet a wiki system would be nice.... it would allow some of the knowledgeable members to add and modify sections as they see fit. It'd make your job easier....

That's what I was thinking. I could build a base wiki on this computer, then export the DB for hosting elsewhere ::looks at my server:: ::looks at CK5:: :)

Oooh. Geeks with trucks! :haha:

Umm, for photo ID, Chuck has a great page www.chuckschevytruckpages.com

He's mostly pickup-centric, but it's a start.

There's also a whole pile of stuff you could do about trimlines, what models came with what options/drivetrains/etc, much of which is covered in the year-by-year here on CK5 or on my Brochures pages.

And the what-tire-size-what-lift-what-trimming should be made into a four dimensional Excel thing by Greg. :D

How about a list of typical build designs? I know there seem to be discrepancies but really why not a list of what works with what. How long are typical tranny and tcase combos, and effects of this on that.

Yep. Hi-Tech Redneck ;)

Anyways, I have decided on the Wiki approach. I'm using phpWiki to test on my machine here, and once it's operational and I get some base article I want to add onto it, I'll export it and host it on my server for the time being.

I've got sufficient space and bandwith, appreciate the offer though :)

Hrm, if this works out I might get a seperate domain for it.

jagged, if you need any help, technical or otherwise

Technical as in content-related? or what?

I've done my fair share of coding (C, C++, Java, Perl, Ruby, Python, PHP), so I think I've got a handle on the 'computer' technical aspect of everything. It's just assembling a test set of information that I need to work on, I think for simplicity's sake I'll start off with the 52" spring info (since it's already been collected in a way), and a Transmission/Transfer-Case reference.
