so i ran carnage canyon last weekend and managed to use my saddle tank as a rock slider not good almost poked a hole in it. so im thinkin maybe i should move it into the bed until i get a fuel cell. anyways will everything still work ok?? i will have to do some wiring but the truck is using a mechanical fuel pump but the tank will be quite a bit higher know will the tank being higher affect the fuel flow and the pump.

As to your question, I've no idea what'll happen with the tank higher. Hate to say it, but you could try it by dropping the tank and putting it up on stands or the like next to the truck ... would require a coupla lengths of fuel line, but otherwise is just time. All the factory and aftermarket auxiliary tanks I've seen have been at the frame rail level.

Oh, wait, some of the pre-73 trucks had a gas tank in the cab, above the body line... but I don't know where the plumbing went; maybe the fuel feed line went on the bottom. (Be a PITA to change the fuel pump, though, 'cuz gravity would push the fuel out. :dunno: )

If you can find one cheaply/easily, a Blazer or Burb tank would be easier to fit into the bed -- those saddle tanks are LOOONG, even the 16 gallon ones -- and carry considerably more. Just a thought.
