Hey guys, i've been doing some reading on here, and i'm thinking of doing a diesel swap. I have an 85 Blazer with a 350 and 700r4 trans. I'm looking for something that will get me a little better gas mileage when towing a small trailer. I'm also considering a newer diesel truck, but i really like my K5, and could maybe have the best of both worlds.

Has anyone on here done a cummins diesel swap? Where have you found your engines?

I've been reading about the 6.2 and 6.5, just trying to get the pros and cons of each swap. any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

matt

I had a 5.9 TD, it's a perkins but same size and power as a Cummins, I can tell you it's too much for the K5, stick with a 6.2/6.5 or go with a 4BT if you really want a cummins.
My frame cracked in so many places, and the cross members kept losening up, as well as lots of the rivets on the frame.
I still have the engine and it's going in my 1ton Crewcab or in a C60 that I might buy.
6.2 is cheap, and a straight forward swap.
And it get decent mileage and good enough power for a small trailer.

6.2 swap is straightforward, and it will do fine with a small trailer. I have a 16.5' bowrider I tow behind my 83 1/2 ton. Boat and trailer weigh about 2500-2700 lbs with fuel and gear. Might be a bit more than that, but not much. The pick-up tows that just fine.

Freeway mileage with my pick-up is 25 mpg. City it still gets 17 mpg.

6.2 NA, 700R-4, 3.42's, and 235-75R15's.
