thinking of going full hydro...

bump...in comparison to buying crossover (all the parts to go along with it) and buying hydro assist how much is this $$ wise in comparisson...dont worry it aint on the street...

If I had to do it from scratch, I would guess I'd have about $1k in my hydro setup. Need an orbital, a way to attach it to your steering column, a ram, lines, a GOOD pump, and reservoir, and probably a cooler.

my buddy is putting full hydro on his truck...i thought the colum attached to the orbital??what companies sell a complete kit??i know you can prolly save money by pieceing it togher but i would prolly just buy a kit...

mabye a kit like this even though its for rockwells...

I know PSC sells kits, but if you can source an orbital it makes it much cheaper. I'm using one out of a combine and it's actually just about right. The only problem is that it likes to freewheel when I try to turn left, which has caused me to hit things with some speed...including my neighbors lawn while going for a test drive. :doah:

thats why im just thinking about buying a kit...the one from chucks trucks is 1100 bucks...it seems like it might be about the same price as crossover and hydro assist and seems you get alot more benifits from it

Then pull yours and give it to me.

Seriously though, post up the make and model you got that orbital from. It's great for me for displacement (turns lock to lock) with a 2" ram. The only problem is that stupid freewheeling thing that I can't figure out.

I can't remember what I got them from.... I'll have to do some digging.

I guess I don't know the free wheeling thing you describe Mikey. Mine does go into some kind of a bypass when you are at center. I figure that's normal. Makes it very odd to drive down the road though. Which, shouldn't be doing anyway I guess.

In parades you are continously turning left thanks to the crown of the road.

Well, mine doesn't go into bypass at center, but sometimes when I try to turn left it's like the wheel is disconnected from the orbital. I can take my pinky and fling the wheel and it'll just keep spinning with no effect until I JERK it right and then it'll work again. Only turning left though, not right. :dunno:

How do you have your wheel attached to the orbitrol?

orbital
way to mount it to your steering column
pump
ram
ram mounts
lines
reservoir
filter
cooler
fluid

PSC and Howe make adapters that go from the orbital to common spline counts. Try browsing PSC's site for a few minutes and seeing what you can come up with.
