So I've had this truck since I was 18 I think. I bought it from my uncle because it was a k30 and all of my buddies were going bigger and stronger so I did too.
I lifted it, trail rode it, and mud raced it a lot in the beginning. Then I got the bug to fix it up and make it look pretty. When that snowballed and it turned out looking pretty sweet I went to a bunch of truck jamborees and shows but eventually I started mud racing and trail riding it again. I couldn't bear to see it get trashed and by then I realized that I needed something lighter to be competitive in mud racing so I bought a K5 that I still also have which has undergone about a 10 year rebuild from racer to trail rig, but that's another story.

Anyways once I got married, bought a house and had 2 kids (13 and 15 years old now) the K30 has just been taking up space in my shop. (Ya that's another story to I built my dream shop about 8 years ago.) My plan was always to resurrect it for my daughter when she turned 16 (less than a year away now).
I dont know if she'd even care to drive it? Quite honestly it wouldn't be real practical just would be a neat thing to do. I look at how long it's taken me to get my K5 somewhat finished and it's probably just a pipedream to think that I can rebuild the k30 thr way I'd want to.

I've never really wanted to get rid of it because finding one that's in as good a shape would be tough but I guess I've kind of lost interest in it.

I just dont even know what it's worth? I've seen a lot of ads asking some crazy prices for squares in recent years.

Here's a run down on it.
Its titled as a 79 but it looks like an early 80s Silverado front end, I can't even remember what year the clip was from? The box and cab came from Texas and were rust free. The whole truck was taken to bare metal before paint.
The frame is from an 81 or newer. It was someone's project when I bought the frame. It was blasted and powder coated. I was told that it was from a truck that burned up or something, anyways it's a true k30 frame and there isn't a rust pit in it.
It's got a t400 and a 205. Dana 60 and 14 bolt. Currently no motor. I have a big block that I could put in it. Nothing special just stock 80s vintage. The truck was painted in 96 so its aged paint. It's got scratches and a few dings but it's never seen a midwest winter. It has 1 little rust spot in the rear quarter where there's that stupid double thickness of metal down low behind the wheel opening.

It's not a perfect show quality truck but I'd say it's better than 70% left out there.

What's it worth?

As a point of reference, I paid $2500 for an M1028 last year with no rust but at least one dent in every body panel, mostly minor but the bed floor is trash. I thought it was a good deal for a running/driving project. Your best bet is to put the motor in it and get it running. I would guess it could sell for $5-7K as a good runner in the midwest, maybe a little more if you clean up a few of the minor issues and put bigger tires on it. As it sits, I think you would be lucky to get $2K as a project.

This. A non-running truck isn't worth peanuts. $500. Maybe $1000 because it's a more desirable truck. But in turn key condition it should bring $5000, if it's as nice as it looks.

If you don't want to finish it, I'll give you peanuts for it. But you're much better off getting it driving before you sell it. Rigs that need trailer rides don't bring much money.

Like everything else, location plays a large part in it too....if that truck was local to me, I'd already be on the way to you to pick it up if the asking price was $1000....

I disagree. Based on looks from here, that truck is worth more than the typical $2K non runner. I’d definitely go higher than that and still feel like it’s peanuts.

I would agree. The most likely scenario is that the person that buys this truck will have more money than mechanical skills to put an engine into it.

probably $3K out here as is and doubled that running/driving.
