how can you tell from just the case?

The case adapter is figure eight on both sides and has a big ol foot on the bottom of it.

how can you tell from just the case?

You can tell by the adapter shape & bolt pattern ,when it is combined with a NP205
8 bolt figure 8 pattern= 10 spline

6 bolt round pattern = 32 spline.


& all SM465/NP208 combos will be 32 spline
