Ok, my question is, can I buy a 1/2 or 3/4 ton lift kit for my 82 K30, and will it bolt right up? I never could find a lift for a 1 ton. Can I order shocks and all in one kit or do I have to order the shocks seperate because of different mount locations ect. I know if I do this the truck will not be a 1 ton anynore but hey, the ride could only improve. I'm only looking for about 4" over stock, so, since it already sits higher than a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton, do I order the 6" version? Any insight would be great. Thanks for looking at my stupid question.

On the front it won't really be a problem. But for some reason I'm thinking that 1 ton rear springs are longer then 1/2 or 3/4 tons. (I'm probably wrong though). If they are the same length, then everything should bolt in like it's supposed to. You would loose some load carring capacity with a set of 1/2 ton lift springs. As far as needing a higher lift, I'd wait to hear what some other people have to say. A 4" lift may only lift 3"...since the stock springs are stiffer. I don't have any experiance with lifting a truck that started out as a 1 ton.

Well, depends on what's in the kit. There are SOOO many ways to do it. Your common low-cost kits will just be new front springs and blocks for the back; the slightly fancier varieties will include new rear springs.

The upscale ones could include steering correction and maybe even shocks.

Or you can source your stuff piece by piece... but it sounds like you want a kit.

as far as I know, 1 tons run 63" or 64" rear springs, as appose to the 52" rears in 1/2 or 3/4 tons. I may be wrong though.

For 73-87/91's, you're thinking of 56" rears; they're used in some 3/4's as well

The 63-64"ish springs are on newer body styles or other brands.

Also beware that unless you specify that you have a 1 ton front axle the ubolts and steering parts will be wrong.

Yeah, I shoulda been more clear. Whether you buy piecemeal or a kit, you really have to decide what components you want, specific to your truck, and then figure out how you're gonna buy them.

There just isn't any one single "lift kit" for these trucks.

Cool, thanks for all the info. I guess I'll just start collecting the parts I need. Like Johnny Cash, "One Piece at a Time" HA HA Thanks again!
