this motor any good?

The only exceptions I know of are that, currently, 1975 and earlier vehicles are smog-exempt. This means that you can do basically anything and not have to sweat it.

Yes and no. You are exempted from going and having it smogged. But, technically, you are supposed to maintain the engine the same as it was in the year that it was purchased. So, although everyone talks about yanking the carbon canister and manifold air lines. etc., technically you are supposed to leave them on. But from a practical matter, if nobody is checking, then nobody would know which is why most people do it.

Exactly how I would have preferred to say it. You are dead on from what I understand and that is phrased much better than I wrote. :D

Not sure it if was mentioned or not....I just bought a crate motor from a local dealership and they give you a discount on all the parts you need to install your motor. Like starter, water pump and the what not. I got mine in dublin maybe an hour south of fairfield. Plus you would save on shipping. My motor was a direct replacement for my 94 truck (which has tbi) and was about 2k total. So you would have a motor that would take your intake with out any mods, and you wouldnt have to pay shipping. They had something like 20 of them in stock. :D

then why could my GF's dad get his camaro to pass smog when he is pushing over 500hp? its a 2000 i believe....

because it's fuel injected and the computer can compensate for a lot of unburned particulates. If it's carbed without EGR and smog pump it's all blown out the rear, catalytic convertors or not.

The GM engines are good- they used to get a bad rap, but have really improved their quality over the past ten years. I'm running one in my t-bucket with no problems. Good little base engine to work off of.

Ok, please explain this
12499529 290HP at 5100rpms, and 326T at 3750rpms $1600.00
compared to 10067353 250HP at 4300rpm, and 350T at 3600rpms $1400.00
So if HP=someconstant*torque*rpms
then HP=K*326*3750=1222500, vs HP=K*350*3600=1260000
So at 3600rpms the lower cost 350 has more HP and Torque
So save some $$$ and get the toqure motor

i'm pretty sure thats the motor i got. im not 100% sure because i bough mine in a 3/4 ton with 500 miles already on it for $800 :D and thats the motor the guy said it was and i'm pretty sure he wouldn't lie. anyways just thought i would let you know i love it and it was a great improvement over my old one. i went from 4-6 mpg to 15-16 mpg and i think double the power.
