the gears were marked 9:37 which would be 4.11 right?

and the stamps didn't the pattern I have seen on others with the GM and the 7 or 8 digit code and then the pinion and ring gear stamp and the date code. this just had the GM and i think it was 8 digits and then the 9:37 on the end of it.

9/37 = 4.11 that's for sure. Just to make sure count the teeth and do the math.

Scott would know better than I about motors and their power bands, but my Amigo, for instance, has a similar (3.2L) V6 and 4.10:1 gears stock... something about smaller motors needing more gearing, or maybe it depends on the torque curve? :dunno:

I pulled factory 4.11's and a gov' locker from an early model S-10 that had a 2.5 4 banger in it. Buddy used the body and frame to put on top of a K5 chasis, welded frame to frame and used on the road, very scary I know but we were much younger then. I snagged both the front and rear axles and put them under my long bed with a 4.3 and only 30" tires. With a shift kit that was a very very fun truck.

Yep, 3.42's and 4.10's used to be the most common S10 ratio's out there. I had to search hard to find some 3.42's (kept finding 4.10's) for my friends S10 a few years back. I can't recall anymore, but the combination was something like small engine, manual trans=4.10's. Larger engine, auto trans, 3.42. His was a 4.3/700 combo.

Small motors tend to get deeper gears. Same deal with the 2.5L Wranglers; most had 4.10s.

I'm looking for a set of 4.10s for the front of an S-10, and from what I've been reading 83 and 84 were the only years for them. When the 4.3 came out pretty much everything got 3.42s, and 3.08s for 2wd's.

My 86 trooper has 4:55's stock. 4:77's were an option on some models.

there is a difference in the code for the gears between 410 and 411 the 411 specificaly was shown under the H** code410 were a g** code. learned that from 1987 s10 I owned for 2 years. my truck was also a 2.8l 5 speed 4x4 with all the skid plates and off road shocks. also has 235/75 15 tires not the 215/75 15 tires.

typicaly the 411 was used in the more off road ready trucks.

wonder if you have my old truck?
