This thing is begging for a 4x4 conversion

I have never seen a van like that so clean. Around here every van of that vintage is rusted clean through, worse than the trucks.

my uncle has one of these with the diesel 6.5 naturally aspirated. It looks identical, same colour and everything, just has the '91 grille on it, although I believe its a '95.

He ran that thing to almost 400 thousand kms and she still can run. Up on jacks now though and parked, can't remember if the tranny was the problem.

REALLY nice shape. How can you have a 2500 with 5 lugs though? Don't see any 2500 badges, wonder if its actually a 1/2 ton.

brings back memories...

My buddy growing up, his family with 7 kids, me, and another lady all went from Norfolk va to Omaha in an old 73ish 1 ton version, with no a/c. In june!

good times....

so we love taking extremely clean, original, or mostly original trucks, and cut them up and make them into something they werent' meant to be?

and i don't mean with most of the peoples trucks on here being cut into truggies and whatnot, most of the time we start building our trucks out of a truck that isn't really in the best of condition anyways, some have, and it sucks to see a clean truck get cut and beat on. Hell, mine wasn't even that perfect when i got it and i'm still pissed that i beat it as much as i have.

I say leave it alone, it's too nice to do a serious mod like that to it.

I will second the "why mod a clean truck" thought. I can't tell you how many nice K5's I saw for sale which said things like "New lift kit, removed all carpet and Rhino lined it" etc when you could tell it was an otherwise immaculate truck. And now they are selling it and can't get nearly as much money for it, and there is one less clean truck to be had.

Oh well. I'm just saying... But that's just me. I really appreciate a clean non-modded truck. They are hard to find!

Yea but they are so much better looking with a small lift and some meaty tires, a gear head is always going to tinker with anything he/she drives no matter if its a 1995 Geo Metro or a 1991 K30 Crew Cab. Whats the fun in having something stock.:dunno:

If I had the space, skills and money, Id do alot with that. You have a very good base to start with, being stock, low miles, no rust and initial cost isnt bad.

***AD has been Deleted. I bet someone got that thing quick. oh well***

I did a 4x4 conversion on a nice clean van, what is wrong with that?
I tried to do projects like that with a beat up truck and it's too much work to get to what you can easily have ready from a clean truck.
All I wanted was 4wd, so I added a tcase, put spring hangers in the front and put an axle.
I did have to change the rear axle to get 8 lug since there are no 5 lug front axles with chevy.
I only had 31" tires on it, stock was 29"
It was just a travelling van and having 4wd was a nice addition.
Now I am working on a 2wd to 4wd conversion on a basket case crew cab. I think it will take me forever to finish it because what I have is a cab, a frame, some parts here and there and the only reason I am doing this is because I want a 3+3+3 and it would be a shame to cut a clean cab since the interior and exterior will have to be redone either way.
But just tp add 4wd, it's better to start with a clean specimen.
My 2 cents.:dunno:

There is a 4x4 chevy van in the town next to mine in southeastern MA for sale,it was listed as a "military" version, factory 4x4,one ton..I searched the Boston CL and dont see it listed now..its been listed a few times in the past few months...I think the asking price was 4K...didn't look as nice as the one shown here, but not nasty looking either..I think it was around a 1984 or so..
