Who designed the duramax? Isuzu
Who builds the trans? Alison
Who builds the powerstroke? Navistar(read:International)
(I think we all know whats in the dodge)
Sorry but the big three cant build a new vehicle for crap these days. At least not on their own. Planned obsolesence. They want you to come back and buy another car in 50K miles when yours starts having problems.
I wouldnt buy a new gas domestic pickup if you paid me to. Every one of the big 3 has their own unique problems. If i had to buy a new pickup it would be a dodge with the cummins and the 6-speed. I dont care what the isuzumax is rated at, it still is no cummins.
And why would anybody need heated leather seats in a truck /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

No personal offense, but you obviously don't know how the auto industry works. Do you think that Isuzu (which, by the way, is owned by GM) just randomly built the 6.6L Duramax and then GM just slapped it into the trucks........uhhh, no. All of these suppliers work directly with the manufacturer in the specifications and designs of these parts. Most engines and transmissions nowadays that are "built" by a supplier are specifically designed for that particuliar vehicle.
In other words, saying that a GM truck with the Duramax and Allison trans is the best because GM doesn't actually make the parts is pretty off key.
While I agree that most of the domestic manufacturers tend to have some quality issues, you also have to remember that new vehicles are held to a much higher standard than something built back in the early 70's. Nowadays people will freak out if their new truck doesn't start on the first crank, has a slight rattle in drivetrain, a little slop in the steering, or just a little to much wind whistle in the cab. Do you really think somebody back in 1972 would take their new truck back to the dealer if they had to crank it over 2 or 3 times to get it started on a cold morning.......I don't think so.
