I found a set of like new 33x11.50x15's for $500. They would be going on more of a daily driver type rig. Not really an off road rig. Are they round? Loud? Who has actually ran them?

Martin

Loud they work decent in Moab crap traction in rain snow ice bring the suck. But they look cool

X2 on the look cool! To bad they are not cool on the round factor, or the loud factor, or the snow factor, or the... Mine sucked!

my bud had a set... in addition to all the aforementioned suckyness, they may be the worst wearing Interco offering... and that's saying something..

Yeah, but I want 33's. It has a 4" lift on it. I have contemplated taking the lift off, and running 31's.

I had them for a while.

They worked ok in mud for me. Did ok in river rock, so so in sand.

Super super loud on the road.

Just seems not worth it for the $500.if they were like $200,then maybe.

Also, I'm pretty sure I have seen a few pics where this has happened,

There's 100 threads like this on Pirate: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general-4x4-discussion/654041-grooved-thornbirds.html

Here's my favorite quote:
speaking from expeirience with these turds, they suck point blank, there heavy they dont clean out well and there hard as a rock even at very low pressures, stay away from these abominations of rubber

For super cheap, you could groove and sipe them for offroad "performance" or use them on a sand toy, but I don't know what you could do to make them work better on road. I knew a Toyota guy once who wouldn't run anything but Thornbirds - ran them year round and swore they were great at everything.

That's why I made the thread. If they were $200, I would just buy them and find out, but they are $500, and three hours away.

They only have a couple thousand miles on them.

Anyhow, I always hear people say how awful they are, but I wanted first hand experience.

Do yourself a favor and keep looking. You found one good deal, not the only good deal. I have seen tread blocks come off of these, like picture shown. Not only would you be screwed for a tire, but possible body damage.

I saw a pile of tires set by the road one day,no for sale sign though. What caught my eye is they were mounted on 9.75 x 16.5 aluminum slots and maybe decent 35s. I turned around to check them out. The tires were 35/12.50 BFG A/Ts in pretty darned good shape (75%),except one cupped bad. Knocked on the door,no answer, was writing a note when a woman came to the door. She said they were for sale and I left my number. Got home, had a message saying he had another good tire (talked real fast) he could get, come on by and get them,if not home come on back,he'd get the other tire, and the only mention of money I heard was $40. I wasn't sure if he forgot to say the price and the extra tire was $40 or what. But he did say swing by and get them even if he wasn't home. I swung buy, stuck two twenties under the mat on a truck sitting there, and called that evening. All was good. I got the wheels and tires for $40 and stopped by later for the other tire. Not saying that'll ever happen again, but there ya go. Deals are out there
