Since we all seem to have a soft-spot for old stuff, thought I'd share the Poulan I recently rehabbed. Counter-Vibe 4200 (68cc), made in either '75 or '76 in Shreveport, LA.
Bought it off Craigslist for $40. Compression's hanging in there at ~120# and still has a nice fat spark. Had to re-drill the tank hole to accept the new generation fuel line and rebuild the carb. Thankfully had an air-cleaner (now unobtanium) in decent shape. And as it appears to be some sort of cotton flocking backed with screen, put it on the K&N program.
With a new chain and other bits, into it for about $80. Just cut a bunch of wood with it with nary a on/off hiccup, and chain oiler was pumping nicely. I don't even have a fireplace, but has suddenly turned into one of my most prized possessions.
That being said, am having a b#!tch of a time finding a case for it, as the handle sticks out way more on the "right" side than anything recent. Soft cases on the 'bay maybe, but sticking in my craw on the $.
