So I am building a 1972 chevy truck that my grandpa owned since 72. At any rate I just set the motor and hope in the next couple weeks to fire it up and drive it.

Well the truck has the original split rims and tires all weather checked. In finishing out cleaning of his garage, I found a set of rims and tires that he had for another truck. The tires are at least 10 years old and on a set of 16" chrome rims. I know the tires had around 500 mile on them. He bought the tire and rims and ran them only for 2 summers on his "fancy ford truck". They have been stored indoors and really look brand new.

I know many people say to not run an older used tire, but I know for a fact the tires were used very little and were only for summer show (he used the factory rims for winter). They all were at 35 pound when we found them, which means they hold air.

Would you run them? I really can not find a single thing wrong, but really have heard that you should never run an older tire....

check them over good.

if nice run them low speed for a few miles and recheck. then if good run them.

guy at work is running 1978 stock tires on his 11,700 mile truck all orignal .

but if real old might be bias ply and wont smooth out and vibrate bad no matter what .

Your talking to a whole bunch of guys who would run tires older than that if we thought they would work off road.

Run em.

UV rays is what really kills tires. If they haven't seen sunlight they look brand new for a reason

I know they were inside, the whole time. He kept the tire just for summer and then stored them in the garage for winter so the rims looked new the next summer. So I am going to run them.

Just took the original spare to my truck off the right rear :thumb: It was bald, cracking and.... Old. 21 years old. Never had a problem. I'd say run um!
