I have an opportunity to buy a tci th400 trans for super cheap. Anybody have any experience with them? Swapping in place of a th350. Easy swap? What will I need? Thanks!

length = longer

rear tail shaft spline = 32 over 27 of th350

electric gas pedal switch and bracket for kickdown on th400.

eats 20-25 more hp you don't get out the tail shaft cause stuff is so much bigger .

no real gearing advantage .

they are beefy tho . and if the deal is right go for it .

He pretty much covered it.

If you are running more hp, wheel hard or have big rubber it would be a wize upgrade.

If you are a level headed person on a tire size that is still modest, can say it would be worth it if the unit in the truck is in good order.

you will need to address your t case and the corresponding adapter to bolt it up along with the splines needing to be changed.

Yeah it's gonna be a go fast desert-trail rig and I have 37"s on it right now. I'm regearing the rear 14 Blt to 4.88 to help with that. I mean it's the street fighter model and he's asking $300 for it and it goes for $1500 cuz he says he's going to a 700r4.
What goes into changing the splines? A new driveshaft?
And an electric gas pedal switch? Never read anything about that. Only read a little about the TV cable adjustments

There is no tv cable on this unit, it has a vacuum.

I've swapped a th400 to 27 spline, requires taking the trans apart and swapping the output shaft. I actually still have one of these sitting here. Figure in 200 or so for a trans shop to tear down and swap it.

The better choice would be to swap your t case. what transfercase do you currently have ? also is his a 2x4 or 4x4 model?

1500 bucks new

and he wants 300 :rolleyes::whistle:

don't add up in my world .

and if you cant test it don't trust it in the world of used driveline parts . :deal:

right, my bad. The 700r4 has the TV cable. I have the 208 t-case in it.
What about using a 31 spline drive shaft and so just swap the drive shafts out when I put in the th400?
I am unsure about whether his is 4x4 or not. Is there a different model for 2x and 4x?
Thanks for all your help!

different tail shaft lengths for 2wd and specific shaft for 4wd to fit length needs on t-case bolting to it .

31 spline is ford only .

sounds like you need to read up more on this stuff before you dive in way to deep and get sucked down the black hole of endless upgrades .

Haha wow...I meant 32 spline! C'mon it was late!!
Trust me, a trans swap was the last thing I was thinkin about but hey, when you're bored on cl you never know what can happen! And it's kinda one of those things where you think "ehhh might as well while the trucks already up on the stands and all taken apart" and "you wanted to make that upgrade anyways and paydays coming up....soo....." Haha yes I know. This is the thinking that makes a truck end up taking 5 years to finish but hey, I got nothing but time :)
