what do ya'll think of thats guys home made shakle flip? where he cut thru the existing rear most spring hanger, dropped shackle thur hole. i'm quickly running out of money, but/and don't really dig them big ass blocks. they don't look to bad...i just don't trust em'. i guess tighten every weekend...before and after wheelin trips..
i don't do that much really with my rig, light trails running and splashing little mud holes.

what you get about 4" of lift out of it? did you have to drop the tank? did you just cut holes while still attached to frame? cool man. yeah looks like you took a little extra time and made sure it'd be strong...thats great job!

i did it with the tank in place. put some wet rags over the side of tank and then a peice of sheetmetal over it to shield from sparks. Cut it with a plasma too so less heat, was mostly just for caution.

I think i got about 4 out of it, maybe a little less.

Dont know the lift on my front springs, but i had a 3 inch block in rear before, and had a saggy butt... but after this im level so i think it was pretty close!

I think i`ll have to look at that for my truck in the future, first I got to get some 4 inch front springs. Good idea. gets me thinking.

Friend of mine did this on her IFS Chevy a good while back. Worked great and she got the idea from others. She did reinforce the mount though.

I have done it before, it falls under "booty fab". Don't do it to your daily driver, but if it is trail only and you are on a tight budget.... just remember Kert at DIY 4X4 makes some sweet brackets for a great price!

I did it on a DD...;)

A little gusset plate on top and you're good to go. I never had probs with mine.

why u say not 4 daily? my blue baby is my work truck/weekend mud bug/grocery getter/kids taxi !!!! yeah i know.

hoo rah!! my dad was a "gunny"...25yrs of service....yup me and my brothers all had crew cuts until we turned 18. wasn't too smilly of a guy ... but...awesome dad!!!

I prefer the shekel flip. :D

You know, there are vendors like ORD or DIY4X that sell such stuff, and guess what, it's ready to go...

Actually, come to think if it - I don't think they'd take actual shekels...

You can always use the front rear spring hangers from any of these full size chevys in the rear position for 4-5" of lift. Align bracket with top of frame. Then reinforce the part that hangs dow below the frame. Ghetto Shackle flip :)

Hard part is getting them off the vehicle at the yard.....Ninja rivet skills are needed for sure. Or find a yard where they let you bring power tools.

ok...yeah mind filled with crazy thoughts again.....if i get a 2" "lowering shackle" that is gonna make my truck 2"lower in the rear....now if i cut the shackle hanger and drop the extended shakle thru....now i could....in theory....net about 6" of lift???? right???no????

i know...quit being cheap...and just buy ord's ****!! but, i aint got no money!! if i could get the approximate same results for 60 bucks?? sweet!!
food for thought...

ya'll have a great week....back to the grind....later

Ya know you could shop others besides ORD and save a few bones as well. Their stuff is good, but not the only show in town these days :wink1:

I did the home made shackle flip years ago. It was easy and worked well. Many have run it with no added reinforcement without problems. Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard any stories of that bracket ever failing because the bottom was cut out.

At any rate, it's a lot less work than dropping the tank and getting all those dang rivets out of the frame, even if you are welding on reinforcements. Plus it's almost free. The only drawback is that you don't get to pick your shackle angle.

The lift you get is 4", the same as the distance between the bushing eye centers on the shackle - since the axle is located at the center of the spring. Don't forget to compensate for the change in pinion angle.

That's the same thing I did... I left the "L" bracket that's under the frame for extra support... Been running it for several years with no issues... I even ran it with 52s and a horrible shackle angle and it still worked better than blocks...

Gonna pull the hangers off the parts truck in the yard and throw then and some 56s under a buddies truck... He's been running 6" lift springs for a long time and can't come close to the flex that a few of us running the home brew flip can...
