Thoughts on this 1965 truck

Floor shifted auto would be my guess.
Has some nice features. A lot of mods.
V8 vs 6, lowered vs stock. It is eye of the beholder. Both look decent.

Yeah... lowered long beds look weird to me... stock one is probably better...we’ll see

The ball joint studs are probably slightly larger diameters than the 1/2 ton spindles holes would except. They probably tapper reemed.

starter solenoid, that is not being used as a solenoid.
Is one of those ford external starter that people use for heat soak?
Either way, all those wires and cables hooked to it for nothing?

Waiting to hear back from seller

That's a good sign.
Yup heat soak solenoid, thou I didn't think inline 6 had heat soak issues.
May be in AZ

I thought those solenoid were used for starters to close to exhaust? Either way, it looks good I asked to send me a running video so I don’t waste my time driving an hour away... I’ll make an offer then.

Just speculation, maybe they couldn't find positive cable long enough, or a starter was weak and drawing a lot of amps after running, short stop, and attempt to restart.
I have seen 6 cylinders with vapor lock issues, but that doesn't effect starters ability to turn the motor over.

Does it have 3 gas filler spots?? I see behind seat filler and what look like gas doors on both sides of the bed?

Manual choke on the 2 barrel?

If I could get that truck back to MA for under a grand,it'd be well worth it!..it'd sell here for 10K easily, but I'd keep it -- as-is,not try to cut it down to a short bed--the 292 will run forever and with a TH400 behind it it is unlikely to ever need either one replaced..
All 292's had a one barrel carb factory, right up until 1984,the last year GM offered them..

That is pretty much my "dream truck" at this point in my life..
Something to drive only in good weather that rides better than a solid axle 4x4..

I have no clue why the Ford solenoid is there,I doubt a straight six would have starter heat soak problems, maybe the oem wiring to the starter solenoid is not letting full voltage get to it or something..
Or maybe it has 2 batteries and one is hooked to the solenoid so it'll get charged while driving, but not drained ,if the other battery dies.

It has a later HEI distributor too, perhaps they are using the Ford solenoid to give power to the coil, which needs 12V,the oem points coil needs a ballast resistor or resitance wire to cut down the voltage so the points wont burn up..
