So there is either a trick or it's a "pipe" dream:(

Cut a chrome 1/4" pipe and attempted to thread it to 18 TPI. What a Joke! Can't get it started. Just chews up the end.

Where would you go to get pipe threaded?

you need a ratcheted pipe threader.... i do it all the time at work, straight thread too..

you can probably rent one easy enough...

Also most machine shops will have a pipe threading machine, plumbers too....

Not sure I understand the 18 TPI,,,are you threading it for a pipe fitting or something else ?

If you are threading it for a 1/4 " tapered pipe thread, you may have to grind the square cut edge of the pipe for the die to get a bite onto the pipe.

not a lot,,,just a small taper to get the die started.
