throttle cable adjustment?

so ever sinced ive owned my 87 stepper its had the worlds stiffest gas pedal, and has gotten sticky and worse. when it got really cold this winter(-20) I eventualy noticed I wasn't getting full throttle anymore. I crawled under the dash and noticed the pedal has couple inches of play. the pedal is lower down and I could see the end of the cable sticking out a couple inches from the bracket above the pedal where the cable pulls when you press the pedal. should I go ahead and replace the cable?

Yup, sounds like the cable is junk.

so I have stock throttle body on my 87 tbi any suggestions where to get a cable? rock auto has one

Delco if you can get it! Rockauto is pretty good about carrying their stuff.
