Ok, working on my engine today and was playing with the carb. Noticed that with the pedal on the floor the throttle blades are only about half open. Now with the new cam and near 600hp this just isnt acceptable lol.
When I converted to carb I kept the same throttle cable from the FI, and it was the same cable as I had on my 350. So basically I had a 350 tbi cable and used it on a 454 tbi, and then on a 496 carb. It worked fine with the injection on the truck, but with the carb, the first time around I couldnt make it open correctly, so I bought an adjustable bracket from summit, one of those where you can move the little square 'holder' around. Got it good enough, but now that I am waiting on a new fuel line to come from summit, might as well try to fix this
I got to looking on advance's site, and there are umpteen million cables available. I dont even know if a new cable will help me, it almost seems that the pedal doesnt have enough travel to open the blades all of the way.
Granted there is a ton of leftover cable, it makes a loop coming out of the firewall before it goes into the bracket, but still, I have it adjusted now to where the pedal is at the very top of its bracket and the cable is fully extended just as the blades close all the way. There doesnt seem to be any 'slop' in it. Has anyone run into this problem?
