I have a sm465 in my 79 Jimmy. I currently have to push the clutch to the floor to get it to shift. I checked all my linkage and its adjusted all the way out. Iread somewhere online that this is common because there selling the wrong size bearings in clutch kits. Anyone have any experience with this??? I'm going to pull my tranny and install a timken bearing.

Thanks

I've been sold the wrong TObearing. Do you have your old one to compare to? If the height is less than yours, that could be the cause.

If I remember right, there were 3 different T/O bearings--one for a "flat finger" diaphragm pressure plate, one for a "raised diaphragm" and another for the three finger bog & beck style...the longest one was used with the flat diaphragm ,the other two were closer in height ,I think the shortest of them was used with the borg & beck pressure plate..

Before you pull it apart it might be a good idea to investigate the condition of the body mounts--I have seen trucks actually lift the cab up instead of releasing the clutch when the body mounts have too much play or are missing a rubber cushion..a sagging cab can cause clutch problems too..so can body lift kits..you might need to extend the linkage some if it has a body lift..

Thanks for the information. I'll check. Go to order the timken from summit cc1705c. Bought this truck a couple years a go and the previous owner said he had a new clutch put in. It has a heavy duty pressure plate. Alot harder to push compared to the stock truck I use to have. I know it was a problem when I bought it and that someday I would have to deal with it. The day is getting closer as my t/o bearing is rattling.
