Thats a 6.5 unit. It can work, but requires reworking the a/c unit on a square body.

I'll run the 6.2 until it dies, then go with a big block.

Be careful, the last time I said that with an engine that was ticking really bad it went for 12 years and counting.
I decided to pull it in favor of an 8.1

I don’t think I could ever get a big block to drive this well
I absolutely love the big-blocks but their just ain’t no comparison to a proper 5.9 Cummins that has low end grunt to spare and pulls so well.
I’ve had a 83 square with a 454 SM-465 and 4.56 gear as well as a 02 Dodge with a H.O. 5.9 NVG-5600 and a 4.11 gear and as good as the 454 set up was it just could not hold a candle to how smooth and strong the Cummins was - the 454 was not lacking but it’s just that the Cummins is that much better!
If a diesel is desired the 5.9 is a joy to drive.

Why, just why do you have to be like that?
I've put so much work into this 8.1litre.

Don’t get me wrong a big-block has so very much to offer and can be built with wildly varying power curves depending on diesel like power curves of the peanut-ports or great all around power of the oval-ports ( also the killer 8.1 versions ) or lett’n them breath a little with the rectangular ports and if we get into the aftermarket the options are damn near endless.

A peanut-port big-block is a major power upgrade from a 6.2 - but if a diesel is desired with better fuel economy and max pulling power from idle to about 3.000 RPM’s is needed ( just like peanut-ports ) then a 5.9 is just so easy and impressive.
All ya gotta do is drive an example of each while pulling something real heavy and be very impressed.

All that being said a big-block is so very worth the effort and will no doubt deliver and leave big smiles on your face but if a maximum effort is warranted in the work truck and pulling department then a 5.9 is hard to beat.

So i was messing around on marketplace this A.M.
Found 3 banks kits before i stopped looking.
I believe God does not want me to have a 6.2 turbo...

And no, I'm not buying any of them.
My neighbor has a 396 for sale, says one cylinder needs sleeved.

Im starting on the L29 I got from obijuan next week.
My yard work is caught up, time to get greasy.

you can do it cheering GIF

I know a L29 is no 5.9 Cummins, but compared to any Tbi or carb small or big block in a square it can’t be beat. Only thing better is an 8.1. But if what you got is an L29 I’d say run it!

Larry is your hookup on an engine harness from Howell too. He’s bought enough for all his swaps they bumped him up to dealer status so he could hook you up for a deal on it and the pcm to run it. That is if you intend to keep the gm EFI setup.

I didn't get the f.i. unit with it.. think about pro-flo'ing it.
