My neighbor just bought a 16" trailer to tow his Jeep when he moves to NY. The trailer has stake pockets, but no tie downs for moving a vehicle. It also has a wood floor. What do you suggest for tie downs points for the vehicle? Below is a borrowed pic of someone els's trailer that is the same style.

just like my 20 foot...i welded d-rings to the top were there is metal...you can hook to the stake pocet also...as long as you go throgh it though and hook it...dont know how safe or legal that is though...

The weld on D-rings were an option, but not the first on the list, but I just saw pics of some welded on to the trailer the other member is building and think they will work. thanks.

The problem is the lack of usable stake pockets at the rear of the trailer. The only one behind the wheel well is to far forward to attatch to the back of the jeep.

Yeah, that would be a problem. I have a set behind the fenders and one set on the dove tail area that allows me to use them.

If its weathered enough for the boards to have shrunk a little put a pry-bar between two at the rear of the trailer. You should be able to open them up enough to drop a chain between. As long as the channel that holds the boards down is of a good thickness and welded on properly it will be a good tie down point. I've done this a few times and its always worked for me.

Let me know if that didn't make sense. Its simple but hard to describe. it also assumes normal wood decked trailer construction.
