so yesterday i went to the alignment shop to have the front end of my truck aligned. the guy said all my tie rod ends were no good and i need to replace them before he could align my truck. the only reason i took it in was cause the tie rod on the passenger side is rubbing sometimes when i am off road on the inside of the rim and the only way they could balance my front passenger tire was to use the weights that stick on the rim. they couldnt put the weights on the inside lip of the rim cause it wouldnt clear the tie rod. so my question is if i change the tie rod ends will this correct my problem? and do i need to fix this asap or can i drive my blazer like this for a while? i only use my truck when i go hunting and to the mountians ect. by the way the backspace of my rims are 4" and they are 15x10 on 33 bfg. any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Its possible that a loose tie rod end could cause contact with the wheel and its possible that replacing will fix the problem.

I would fix loose components in the steering ASAP. The more worn out they get the closer they are to failure.

As for the alignment, the only thing they can really adjust on solid axle trucks is the toe. This is really easy to do yourself (either search or send me a PM and I can explain how to do it).

Are your wheels aluminum? My guess is yes. In addition to fixing what is wore out you might need the 1/4" spacers they make for aluminum wheels. On the other hand, if they only rub now and then you should be fine once all is repaired. I'd check your ball joints and draglink ends for slop too.

Ahh, and YES, fix this soon.

If your tire is being allowed to move that much think of what it's doing to your tires. I bet your rig will drive like a whole nother truck after the repairs.

You can adjust your steering stop to take care of this but depending on the amount of rubbing you might loose a good bit of your turning radius.

I run 15x10 steelies w/ 4.25 BS and I don't rub...

Mine tie rod mounts on the bottom of the knuckle and I was running 35/15.50 on 15x10 steelies with 4.25 backspacing on 6 lug when I went to 8 it had lots of room at least there anyway. Went to 38.5/16-16.5 on 16.5x10's and fixed all but a new clicking noise. :doah::D
