I put my front axle back together this weekend. 3/4T D44 and I used a flat top knuckle that had been milled and drilled. I was down cleaning the shop tonight and noticed the hole for the tie rod on the new knuckle is upside down. What do I do? I hate to take everything back apart. Can the hole be filled in and remilled? Should I do the other side so the tie rod is on top. Please help! TIA!

Yeah, you gotta have matching knuckles. I forget which is which, but some years the tie rod comes up from the bottom; other years it comes down from the top.

So what to do? Find a drivers side knuckle I guess? Anyone know what year to look for?

Yep. I was lucky and took both knuckles from the same truck and had the passenger one milled and drilled.

IIRC the cutoff is between '74 and '77, as my '74 has the one kind and the '77 had the other.

I *believe* the old style is top-down and the new one bottom-up, but I could be wrong.

77 is from the bottom up.
Now for my question.can I replace parts an make mine top down? For that extra bit of clearance.
