I have a 1st gen with a bent tie rod. I've got a D44 and I'm wondering if the tie rod is the same as the later model trucks. I know that the tie rod ends are different (mine bolts in from the top), but I plan on replacing those anyway.

so, can I get a junkyard tie rod from a later model?

Up to '77 you can but anything after that will be straighter and flipped the opposite way of yours in the knuckles and if you use the newer ones, the springs will or will not hit or rub against the tie rod. All depends on how much you flex it.

Stick with the years-specific and 1st Design parts and you'll be fine. And why take a chance with a used tie rod from a junk yard when you can buy new at your local Pep Girls? Be a lot safer and cheaper insurance with new parts.

I guess I never checked, but I assumed that the tie rod was a factory only piece. the bent part there is the tie rod, yeah?

yes, and for you, stick with the bent style. I put some of those knuckles on my '79 D44 and had leaf clearance issues. So going with a straight TR might cause you problems.

I assume you mean bent style ends since the tie rod itself is supposed to be straight. I'll be putting on the same style, but I've got 6" springs so clearance shouldn't be much of an issue.

Wanna sell me that diff cover?
its aluminum so I am considering replacing it and the matching one I have in the back. if I decide to change to something else, I'll give you first dibs. :waytogo:
