TIG welders

has anyone here ever TIG welded aluminum with a DC TIG? how did it come out?

i will probably end up buying a AC/DC TIG welder, but i could get a DC TIG alot sooner.

it doesn't work, end result is dookie. i usually get my tungsten nice and round at the tip by first welding on scrap metal in dc+ til the tungston melts into a ball at the end. thats about all the dc welder will be good for.

Yeah, the AC process is used for TIGing the soft metals. Trying it with DC is only going to make you mad.

yea i figured so much. i have read that you can DC tig aluminum, but it is very dificult and yu don't get the good looking tig welds, which is important for what i need to do.
ill probably end up getting that econotig threw work.
ever have any problems with it?

i just ordered the 200 amp parker ac/dc tig/ stick welder with foot pedal. should be here tues. was just under $800 as long as you mention you saw it here or on pirates

im modifying a post 05 honda crf250r frame to put my cr500 motor into. i also have a bunch of smaller aluminum stuff to do or planned.

i asked the lady at work to get me a price on a welder, and she wouldn't do it. dunno whats up, i know of other people buying a MIG from there. but ive heard a few rumors, if true, most people won't have a job there come January. michigan's ecomony sucks...

that's a good idea. you could even make those little alcohol burning pack stoves and sell them to guy that like to camp or back pack.
