Using this little write up:

I'm here:

The next step requires a small puller. I used small screws and vise-grips on one and a small crow bar on the other one !! They are in there pretty tight too !!

There are two pins 180 degrees apart on the sides of the bowl. These are the tilt pivot pins and they need to be removed. Kent-Moore makes the special puller but I have seen other folks put a small screw in the hole and pull them out with Vise-grips. If the screws break you are hosed! The pins are harden and can't be drilled out if it gets screwed up.

Anyone have any bright ideas on getting these out besides buying the puller that I'd use once?:doah:

I've got small screws that fit, and I've tried pulling with vise grips and tried to get a crow bar in the mix as well, ended up popping a little piece off the cast frame inside the column, I think it'll be fine though, just not sure where I'm suppose to be prying from. I can snap some photos if necessary.

Any ideas are appreciated.:wink1:

a friend with said magical device is always handy
my cousin has one, used once lol, so I know where I'm going :)

have u tried renting one from I would guess some really badass autozone. Tough little tool to find. sorry

I see OTC makes one but I'm kind of impatient so I just went outside and pryed on it some more and they finally popped out, kind of a pain, I'll take pictures as I attempt to reassemble it, might as well document it, and I'm sure I'll have some, "So wait where does this piece go?" moments.:haha:

nice
when in doubt, get a bigger BFH I guess, well pry bar anyway
hope they go in nice, I get to do this soon as well, little sloppy

Fixed the tilt on my 91, had a rough time getting the high beam rod right. Definitely pay attention before removing the parts. Steering wheel is sooo much better now. You will be glad when its all over :waytogo:

Yeah got it all torn down, got the bolts tightened up with thread locker on all 4, the tilt feels great but all the bits and pieces are giving me hell.:doah:

Dimmer switch, ign switch, a little piece that popped off from some where... and the little rod that locks the steering wheel doesn't seem to be sticking out far enough.

I'll post up with pics tomorrow, gotta sleep now.:wink1:

Post up the pics when you get a chance and I can give you some info on where things go. Getting them all into place is a pain, but once you see how they fit it is amazing how easy it is.

Sorry if some pics are blury, here's a shot of how I accessed the bolts, just like Harv said, 1/4" drive, 1/4" socket, with a universal joint and a short swivel head extension.

I pulled the 4 bolts out with my fingers, they were all that loose.:doah: This is after I tightened up the top left bolt you can see how much of the top right one is sticking out.

Pulled them all out cleaned them off and put a bead of thread locker down them and torqued them all down. Then I began attempting to reassemble it.

I did get all the way to putting the ign cylinder back in but it didn't line up and the dimmer although I managed to get it put back together it didn't work. Took me a damn hour to figure out how the little plastic arm fit in the housing. If I push the little arm with my finger I can hear the click for the dimmer but when I had it all back together I didn't get the click when using the lever. I'm guessing it just needs to be aligned or something.

Here's a couple of blury pictures of my only mystery part, it came out when I pulled the housing for the turn signal off the column, it popped out and I have no idea where it goes.

So I need to know where this goes, how to correctly time the ign switch/cylinder, and how to align the dimmer rod. Once again any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. :waytogo:

I can't be sure, since it has been a while, but I believe that is the spring on the turn signal housing. If I could see your turn signal assembly I could tell you where it goes, but I am about 95% certain that is what it is.

I'll grab a pic when I get back out there, but the little metal tab that holds the turn signal in position when you move it is still there if that's what you're referring too. The piece in the picture came out when I pulled the black plastic covers off. The ones that house the Ignition lock and the smaller one that houses the dimmer switch actuator, it's from some where in there.

Decided I'd tackle one problem at a time in order of assembly so I thought I'd work on timing the ignition switch, I got the rod attached to the little rack with teeth on it, but I can not for the life of me get the little rack, the round gear, and the ign lock to all line up in the right positions, what's the trick?

If I remember correctly the rack has to be all the way toward the front of the truck, then the gear goes in and the ignition switch goes in. Been a while, but I think that is the way it needs to work.

That's the way it looked, but I couldn't get the rack to go any farther towards the front end, which would be the acc location correct? If I remember correctly I don't remember ever being able to turn the key back to acc, I might need to see if something is jammed at the other end of the rod. The gf will be busy tomorrow night so I can start tinkering as soon as I get off work instead of 10:30:crazy:

Thanks for your time Lectric I'll take more pics.

I want to help in any way I can. I know that mine is much simpler, since I just put the rack in the lock position then drop everything in, but mine is older and doesn't have all the other bells and whistles.

Camera didn't make it with me, but once I figured out that the truck wasn't "all the way" in park, the rack slid toward the front and everything lined up, I ended up just assembling it without that piece I still have no clue where it came from, everything works just like it's suppose to and the steering feels awesome compared to how it was.

I even made my own little tool to reinstall the locking plate, just a big washer with two small pieces of rod welded to it, slide it over the shaft, torque down the nut and reinstall the ring.

My aftermarket dome light is acting weird but I was having problems with it before so hopefully it isn't related to that little piece I left out, does anyone know if the dome is light is run through anything in the column? I couldn't think of anything.

Congratulations on the fix.

I don't believe the dome light is run through the column. Seem like the piece you left out is a retainer for the key buzzer.
