Without access to search I know the dreaded wobbly tilt problem and have managed to google quite a few threads on it, but not quite specific enough.

I have everything ripped apart down to under the ignition housing and access to the two bolts on the driver's side of the column.

Here's the problem, I can't get it seated in there right. I've twisted, turned, pushed, pulled, everything. The joint isn't holding me up, I can see plenty of slack in it. I'm about 93.8% sure that the tilt is in the dead center position, though I have tried it in other positions and still the same results. It will just not seat into position. I can't find anything stuck in there either that would keep it from going all the way down.

A little backstory... don't know if this will make a difference or not, but the column was wobbly when I bought it and about the 3rd time I drove it all 4 bolts came loose, disabling all steering and pretty much locking the turnsignal arms to the steering wheel. I was a mess trying to move all of them back to the proper side after I turned the wheel and sent them completely around to the passenger side. Vehicle was towed home and repair process begun after that. I was able to get all the arms and gearshift and all that back into their proper position, but the above problem still continues.

If this has been discussed and I missed it somehow, sorry about that. I will up my membership next week so I can properly use the search links, but it's in the upper 90's for the next week or two and this funky column is all that's keeping my boat dry at the moment :(

Top view - this is the bit I'm wondering about. It seems it should notch in there somehow. There's a piece on the upper part of the column that looks like it should slide into a notch on the inner ring where the threads are drilled for the tilt crap to bolt into, maybe 3/4" wide and 1/2" long, but it will not go down no matter what I do.

Oh and everything is unhooked at the firewall. I only had it sitting in there like that to brace it while I was tugging and pulling at it.

i had one simular to that and never did get it to work. I didnt take it appart to find out because i just happen to have a whole new colum to put in. I would sugest checking your local JY and replace the whole thing. The reason is alot of alum. parts in there and if its been wallered out at all it ill just come loose again later. Sorry I cant help you repair the one you got.

Sorry for the non-update. Found someone with a pivot pin remover. Pulled the entire thing apart, replaced all 4 torx bolts and loctited them good. Put it back together and all is well. Really bent up the bright light switch bad, so I replaced it with a foot switch and the turn signal pot was fried. Rather than buy a new one for $100 or so, I just put a radio-shack pot in the dash, got our sign builders at work to make me some name plates for Off-Low-High Washers and put it in the dash.

Works perfect!
