Time for a new DD.

Found this at a local dealer. Worth checking out? Price seem right? http://www.cometautosales.com/2007_Subaru_Outback_Manchester_NH_173945318.veh

Definitely. I like that body style of the Outback better than the current one. The current one is HUGE.

But, be aware, that is NOT an LL bean edition. The LL Bean got leather, alloys, and a 3.0L 6 cyl, if i remember correctly.

Kinda a bummer that one has steel wheels, but that is easily fixed. I'd definitely go check it out.

I forget on that year, but earlier 2.5's needed timing belts around 100-120k (before they break). Its a BIG do it yourself job, but definitely do-able. Just lots of time.

Definately not the LL Bean trim. It was badged inside and out with LL Bean. And like dhcomp pointed out, leather.

So my opinion on used cars, if they don't have service records then you are risking as much with a Chevy Ford or dodge as a Honda Toyota or Nissan. I have seen several malibus go 300k plus and still running great. Have also seen camrys that needed new engines with less than a 100k on em. If you take decent care of any car it will last. So look for service records no matter what you get

Dang! Was going to check the outback out tomorrow after my wife's doc apt which is down the street from the dealer, site says sold already :-/

Carfax doesn't seem to open on my phone or work comp. Does anyone know if they do any sort of free trial? Thanks guys!

No free trial. Sometimes guys that have accounts will run them for you (like on here) , but some forums get all upset about it.

I forget what guys here think.

If its a used car dealership, ask them to provide it. Most will, at their cost.

Just remember the car fax is not all inclusive. A lot of stuff is not reported to the places they pull from.

So used cars (unless its from someone you know) is a gamble either way you look at it. Fair enough :)

When I worked at a dealership just last year, they showed me a clean car fax. When I was fixing the bumper, I pointed out the entire right side had been repainted. Looked under the car. It was destroyed, the car could not be aligned. They sent it to wholesale.

Don't treat a car fax with absolute certainty.....but, still worth running them. Lots of good info does pop up, just don't bank on it being complete.

Or accurate.
My friend had a car here in CA that she bought new and after five years her carfax said it was in a flooding and had flood repair.

Come on, guys. Yes, there is an exception to every rule. But, is it better to get a car fax, and take it with a grain of salt, or not get one at all?

Definitely get one.

How'd you like the camry?

Get to drive that subaru? The camry will be a great car, but i like the subaru better. Just a bit more interesting.

I checked the 04 out and the original 07 I wanted to look at. I did an AutoCheck on both. The 04 was in an accident in the front left (and you could tell by looking at it, body work was horrible) and the 07 started out as a rental which explains why it looks and drive so rough. The 07 was rapping pretty good until it warmed up, then the trans was acting funny. The 04 seemed ok, but was a little sluggish considering it has a v6.

What are your opinions on this? http://www.toyotaofmanchesternh.com...ester-NH-fa860ca80a0a00020023cfcf5da921b4.htm

Its looking like the best way for me to go financially.

may not be what you are looking for,but 2001,2002 mercedes c240 can be had for 6000-10000 ,extremly nice driving solid cars,i got a 2001 model for 7500 with 96000 miles on it and have been very pleased, funny thing is i was looking to get a newer vw golf when i stumbled upon the benz

Wife's DD is an '09 Camry 4 banger. It's been good so far w/ ~60 something on the ODO. No problems getting around in the snow when we lived in Colorado.

Carfax is worth checking if for nothing else seeing how many times it's changed hands. My old Toyota truck had a wreck claim against and the motor replaced at a Toyota dealership, neither showed up on the carfax.

I've been perusing the car market for a while now and found out I could get a dealer maintained BMW 5 or 7 series for $10-15k in the 2004-ish range. Most were around 70,000 miles but I wouldn't go that route because parts will cost a fortune, and labor as well since they're very proprietary parts. They are not built with the home mechanic in mind.

A friend, who makes oodles of money, finally bought himself a car. Used to borrow his daughters cars. He works at home. He found an 08 jaguar convertible add at a Kia dealer. Went to look at it. The wanted 6k for it???? 45k in miles.

Found out somebody had committed suicide in it in a garage. Left the car running. The insurance company totaled it. So it has a salvage title. He got it for $5,500 OTD. It's a really nice car. And for what he paid for it, he can afford to fix it later and still be money ahead.
