Time to buy some tires...

Tire choice

Have had General red letters on two trucks and the a/t on the wife's ride. Red letters are great tires as long as you rotate them often. (5k)
The noise comes with the cupping if not rotated enough. The A/ts are nice but not a fan of the sidewall compared to the Red Letters. No flats with any of them.

Dean loves these:
255/85/16 Toyo M55s

Big Toyo Open Country AT2 fan. Wear excellent, are quiet, and great on the road and in the snow. I have had a set on my Burb since I got it and I have zero complaints.

I have had a set of bfg KO's for about 15k miles now and they aren't even starting to show wear yet. I love them. I hope the ko2 holds up as well as these.

The Falken wildpeak's have gotten good reviews and wear well. Got some on mine, haven't got a ton of miles on it yet. Think they just put a new tread pattern on them, haven't read up on them.

I always bought from Discount Tire, but decided to double check a few places. Found that 4wheelParts had a better price, and no tax. Also had any warranty/road hazards removed from pricing to be apples to apples. PLUS 4WheelParts offered a $50 gift card after purchase.

I brought that all to Discount and price match it all, including the gift card. Saved me almost $200 on the KO2's.

I like the KO2's better than the KO's.

Haven't been impressed with the legacy Falken AT's wear patterns. Every set I've seen with a lot of miles look like trailer tires. The tread pattern doesn't go all the way down so the pattern changes as they get to the latter half of their tread life. Might be good at first but doesn't look good later on.

I Do Dave!

I hate the Toyo ATs I got in 285/75/16 they are wearing out fast. I have then sitting in my basement right now. Going to put them back on for the summer to save my M55s Awesome winter tire!
I like that tread pattern as well, good to hear real world reviews!
I have a set of Duratracs that are a Great tire for snow and mud and are quiet as well.
I have about 25k miles on them and it looks like they will be done at 50-60k

Put a set of general grabber at2's on our ranger last fall. Only ran them a couple months till i put the winters on. I'm quite impressed with them so far, seemed to have good traction in the snow and mud.

The new Tahoe we got for the wife has Nitto Terragraplers, and I will say I like how they perform so far.

So my pool of tire options is greatly multiplying. You guys aren't making this any easier. ;)

@76zimmer, the 255/85R16 size would suit me fine, I just haven't seen it offered very widely.

Looking at the M55s I like their reputation but think they are overkill for this truck. Unless my driving habits change drastically these tires will die of sun aging before they hit 60,000 miles.

BFG Cooper and Toyo are the only ones that make the 255/85/16 that I know of.
I picked Toyo because i have had many sets of M55s in various sizes and I like them. I wanted to try the Coopers but they were the same price and I never had a set? I like Bfg but I don't trust them for gravel because i have seen the old style separating and chunking out on the tread. That said I love how Bfgs are on ice, I have used them before on Toyotas and actually want my kids to use them on their vehicles. Mostly because they are snow rated... I want them to be safe!

I do like m55s Because they are tough and regroveable. I want to get a grooving iron and play!

I have a few sets in storage that would be great to use for summer months.

I'm a fan of the duratracs. I love mine. Compared to the wide open mud tread I had on the old K5, these things are quiet. Street manners are nice once you take the pressure down to reality (had 50 psi in them for a while, 35 is the sweet spot in my K5). The off-pavement traction is great in dirt and loose stuff. The snow traction in deep stuff really woke up once I aired them down. On snow covered pavement I found they had good grip as well.

I did research the Duratracs and most reviews had them giving similar responses with the added note of great treadwear characteristics. I've probably only got 2,500 miles on mine so far, but I have no reason to dis-belive the good treadwear.

Price is pretty good comparing to BFG's too.

Another option I don't think anybody noted was the Hankook Dynapro ATS tire. While I haven't used them on the K5, I'm on my second set on my Trailblazer. I got 50k on my first set. Keep in mind also, my Trailblazer is 2wd. After I put those tires on I really never had a problem in the snow. Now I'm not busting drifts or anything but it's been great on snow packed roads. They have good dry traction, good wet too. I've recommended them to co-workers and customers. Feedback comes back the same way, anybody I recommended these tires too love them.

My Duratrac (10ply) 265/75/16's measure almost 32" when inflated....85 series are getting harder to find, and I notice more 70 series now too.

It's time for me to buy some new truck tires (4). I'm looking at highway and overlanding miles, not planning on much rock crawling. I want durability and longevity, and I do not want road noise or balancing issues. I doubt I'll do much snow driving with these, but it's always a possibility.

Size will be 285/75R16.

I'm pretty happy with the Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires that I've been rocking for years now (since they first replaced the ATR series in 2011), and I'm thinking of getting them again. But I know there are other good ones out there. I hear good things about the General Grabber AT2 I hear medium reviews on the BFG KO2, that it's better than the original, but that may or may not be good enough depending on who writes the review. A quick scan of Discount Tire Direct reveals that the Coopers are the cheapest ones this week (from them), though that changes periodically.

BFG KO2 ($1000 shipped)
General Grabber AT2 ($825 shipped)
Cooper AT3 ($800 - $70 gift card shipped)

Anybody have hands-on comparisons of these tires? Any others I should consider for this purpose? Any particular tire vendors I should look at?

:ears:
I like the falken at tires I bought on my last truck. Will be buying again on this one when the ones on it wear out. They were at 15000 miles when I was t bones and still looked new. Had good tread pattern and ran good in all conditions including mud.
