So some of you might remember, the last 2 years I worked as a shop teacher. In that time I bought and begin a huge build on a jeep project. Long story short, I was not offered a returning contract this last spring and was told with less than a week of school left that I did not have a job.

It was extremely late in the year and as a result I was kind of screwed when it came to openings. So over the summer I have worked pretty much everyday applying for jobs etc. In all I sent out over 40 applications. I got exactly 3 interviews.

In general education related jobs in Colorado were cut back just over 12% this year, add that to the 10% the year before and things were way more competitive this go around than they have ever been.

So after the entire summer of no luck, I went today to pick up the CDL test book and was going to accept a job driving truck. I have always held my CDL as my plan B. The only reason I held out so long was due to my retirement plan with education and once I get out, it will be almost impossible to get back in...

As I was getting my test booklet, I get a phone call from the local community college. after a small session of phone tag, I was offered a job. It keeps my retirement in place, it is identical in pay to my previous years salary and best of all I get to set my hours as needed as long as I get 40 hours a week. This means that we will have exactly 4 hours of day care a week... Best of all I am only 6 minutes from work and I get all holidays.

Needless to say it is a huge relief or both me and my family. While I have always enjoyed driving truck it was something fun for the summer, at least now I have a set schedule and get to be with my kids and hunt and fish etc.

Oh and I also get to keep the jeep I started to build. If I had not recieved a job by august 15th the entire project was going to get sold out.... So keep your eye open I will be building it soon....

Thanks to those who have supported me here....

CONGRATS!! My wife is a teacher also so I can really appreciate the effort to save your participation in the retirement plan. I work for a great company but only have a 401k so instead of retiring at 20 yrs I can retire when I've saved enough (ie; probably never :surepal: ).

Pretty cool you get to keep the project too. Be sure and post some pics!

Good for you.

PS you better supplement this non tech thread in the garage with some pics of said jeep

Ok so here is what I have... The jeep started as a 1984 CJ... To date I have a good running amc 360 with a TF727 tranny a dana 300 twin sticked. A dana 60 front with 5.38 gears and a yukon zip locker. Rear is a 14 bolt welded with 5.38. I am trying to figure out a good 4 link for the rear and a spring over for the front...

Here is the jeep when I bought it... Paid $800 for it running drove it 2 weeks then took it apart. It will be getting a new YJ tub and comp cut as well.

Here is the motor:
The purple color in the pic is different than in person. The jeep is going to be Plum crazy purple and black (it technically is my wifes jeepo, but I will drive it lots)

i also twin sticked the transfer case and hope to have the frame done this next month with all mods.

Also here is some chevy bling... this motor is headed into my grandpas 1972 chevy pickup this fall. My wife bought it from my grandma for my birthday, unfortunately my uncle got into to it and blew the motor...

As you may recall the jeep was a class project I was doing with my students..... Here is the group with the tranny and the twinsticks...

Now I am doing it all in my 3 car garage at home....

Congrats- The US needs to keep our good teachers.

Coming from a trucking family though, we would welcome a good driver also!

Congrats man, and looks like you and your wife will have a nice jeep when it's all done.
