during the motor swap, i had to change the distributor and now i dont know how to do the timing. i can get it to start but it wont idle. i moved the distributor clockwise and counterclockwise. i put the harmonic balancer on 0 on the TDC, on the compression stroke. but should i put it on 12 degrees before TDC and then try it, any suggestions would help alot

Need to know what year and model you have. If it is a TBI engine then you need to disconnect the EST (Electronic Spark Timing) wire first then set the timing to ZERO (TDC) then turn engine off and reconnect the EST wire. The EST wire is located near the brake booster and will be a single wire with a weatherpack connector and the wire should be brown IIRC.
