Would having the timing set too far advanced cause poor fuel economy? I know blazers get poor mileage but yeaterday I took a trip into town that was probably a total of 30 miles and used 1/4 of a 31 gallon tank of gas and that is not right I don't care what you drive. I just recently got this blazer and the previous owner was the type of person that modified everything but didn't seem to know what he was doing (like putting in 2" lift blocks in the back but installing them backward so the pinion points down). Anyway the motor pings really bad going from part to full throttle and I'm thinking maybe the timing is too far advanced?

Yes. Too much advance can cause poor fuel economy. If its pinging you really should fix that. You can burn a piston or valve.
