on my orginal 86 350 it has the aftermarket chrome timing teeth that bolt to the cover. the new motor i got which is a 69-79 gen block, has the timing teeth welded to the cover. im debating using the bolt on one because the welded on one is rusty and hard to see. i was wondering is the weld on orginal more accurate than the bolt on?

I don't think so, I took the rusty one off and put a chrome one om my motor and it times fine.
