"Timing chatter"

I just recently noticed when "ole gal" idles the timing chain chatters, does anyone know if this is a common effect, or should I look into it?



77 K5 with new GM Performance 290hp crate.

New oil and filter 10/30 Castrol, Fram performance filter.

I've never heard a chain chatter before.

Hook up a timing light and see if the timing mark appears to be jumping around at idle. If so, then it's time to replace the timing chain and gears.

You can see if your chain has slop by getting #1 at TDC, then take your distributor cap off and rotate your crank. If your rotor doesnt move and your wrench goes more then about 8degrees then you probably have to much slop in your timing chain.
