I'm getting ready to swap the cam out of my 396, the motor is fresh, I haven't ran it yet, at first I was going to run a carb and the cam in it is too radical for tbi, so I got a comp 255h, my question is while swapping the cam I was thinking about putting in a gear drive, I don't know if the noise will affect the computer?

Don't most TBI big blocks not use knock? I know in my 91 there are no provisions for knock or ESC.

whats the cam specs ? dont forget injection motors computers dont like to go away from 114 lobe seperation spec to much or that run like crap.

it's meant for FI, this is what affordable fuel injection set the computer up for so it should work well...as far as BBC not having knock sensors IDK, I'll call them tomorrow and ask about the gear drive, I know a chain will work fine but I've always wanted a gear drive whine

i had a gear drive set. was cool but more i drove it the more i wished i didnt have it. everyone wanted to see the dam blower i didnt have .

and you cant hear problem noises from the motor till its to late as the gears make so much noise .

if me i would skip them and just go good old roller chain :thumb:
