Have a pre vortec head engine totally stock, running a comp cams 12-304-4 cam, Where should the timing be so I can still run 87 octane with out pinging or detonation issues

Theres a lot of variables with timimg like the wheight/gears etc but a good range for a performance cam is 12-18 base timming.And choosing the right spring wieght for the mec advance to get the timming right when you hit your power band.Lot of test drives to get it right.
