I had an epiphany as I was going to bed, when I put the spark plug wires on,I was putting them on the cap in a counterclockwise fashion. I'm so dumb, being on duty for 14 hours and then trying to work on your truck is not a good combination
Yep, been there, done that. In my early days of working with distributor motors, I actually thought I had set the engine at TDC and it was really at BDC. Took a bit of cranking and frustration before I figured out why it was never going to start like that.
I changed wires,cap and plugs for my wifes uncle, I had a Chevelle he had a Lemans so I just knew it was an easy job. I did exactly what both of you guys did. 2 days in the cold before I figured it out.
I won't mention the first time I did wires on a Ford pickup

Same deal here, over-thinking timing and mixing up BTDC and ATDC. Mine actually ran but was gutless off the line until I realized what I did over 1000 miles later.
